My point was that Labor is calling Keolis Downer a "foreign company" because of the Keolis part of the joint venture. Downer is an Australian company which also makes trains in Australia.

Well all this privatization is a bit of a downer.

Just on that point, what a pity electrification staging did not proceed in an orderly timeframe, allowing for the state government to bring at least assembly work for trains to Adelaide. In WA the state has commenced train construction for the pipeline of new cars required for the airport line, the Ellenbrook line and the Thornlie spur line. This is really no different to Adelaides requirements for Gawler, O.H.and Flinders spur. yes yes Tony Abbot. Still partly the fault of the state government for not using the allocated funds, which were dependant on state co-allocation, and itself delaying the rollout of electrification. It was not following its own timeline either for Gawler or OH. The State Government were certainly not innocent in the matter, but it was a co-funded project and had already been delayed since 2008. This time around, the Weatherill Government went it alone with the Gawler project.

The funding is entirely political, state Labor weren't too concerned with it going ahead or not because Gawler Line runs mostly through safe Labor seats, the Libs want to win these seats so they are funding it. Either way, at-least it's happening.

Politicians are untrustworthy opportunistic parasites. Labor complaining about this, but didn't they bring in a Victorian firm to do the North Tce tram extension? Not to mention how many interstate workers were brought in for the nRAH build (as opposed to employing or training locals for the work).
It's all "support local jobs and industry" when in opposition because they think it will win them votes, until they're in government and then.......

Lend Lease who are doing the Gawler line have now been taken over by Acciona, a Spanish company.

That would explain the presence of Acciona rather than Lendlease vehicles around the works in the last few days. The acquisition of the Lendlease engineering arm was completed last month https://www.acciona.com.au/pressroom/ne ... -business/ .
The level of activity on the Gawler electrification project is being stepped up. Up to now rail closures have been confined to weekday late evenings, weekends (sport permitting) and school holidays. However the present two week closure between Adelaide and Salisbury is being extended from Monday until Christmas and from the summary of future closures it looks as if substitute buses will be running on some section of the line right through to October 2021 https://adelaidemetro.com.au/Announceme ... e-closures . From Monday until mid December there will also be late night and weekend closures of the Outer Harbor and Grange lines . I guess this will allow Platforms 5-9 at ARS to be wired.
