Once complete, I think they should ditch the generic "North-South" and rename it after something that represents Adelaide. Maybe the "Kauna Motorway"..... just a suggestion.

I’d certainly love to see it get a proper name, “North-South” is apt but very generic.

I think a good time to rename it would be when R2P opens and the currently built sections will finally be one continuous motorway from Hindmarsh to Virginia. Renaming it then will give people time to adjust to the new name by the time that the final T2D section is eventually opened.

I am just curious why they wouldn't have just continued the tunnel in the middle as its only some 2-3kms? They could have joined stages 1&2 by tunnel to save a lot of above ground disruption to traffic while its being built (as well as property resumptions etc).

So that drivers not driving the full length of South Road can still enter and exit the motorway.

From a technical perspective, two shorter tunnels is much easier to manage then one long tunnel. The cost of providing the exhaust systems and fire protection to service the tunnel grows significantly in one long tunnel compared to shorter tunnels.

I think the road name has been discussed before but I'm not convinced the Kaurna people would want their name associated with what is essentially a giant scar across the Adelaide Plains.

It's not a hill I will die to defend but I kind of like Adelaide's penchant for non-descript "directional" road names heh

Does anyone really get sick from the undulations in T2T and Superway? The Southern Expressway has much bigger hills by following the topography. I don't know why they are on the Superway, but I imagine the trenches are easier to manage stormwater with a few places to pump out from. The Northern Connector is fairly flat, and the Northern Expressway has two "bumps" for bridges over the railway line and Gawler River. Nobody really complains about going under Anzac Highway then over Cross Road either.

My first time on it I was like “ok it’s a little bit up and a little bit down” but it’s barely noticeable, especially now.

I fully expect the tunnels to be tolled, and since the surface road will be staying it seems pretty fair tbh.

I think the abundance of alternative parallel routes, up to and including the B road, means there's zero chance of it being tolled. As soon as it becomes a toll road everyone will stop using it, and the toll company starts losing money. It's been brought up before, and is why none of the toll companies in the Eastern states have been willing to stump up additional cash public-private style to get the road built in exchange for the toll contract.

Speaking of the rollercoaster effect. Anyone got an insights on how the section between southern end of T2T and West Thebarton Rd will be achieved. The area where the Taylor Bridge is looks way too narrow to accomodate an at grade solution surely?

Labor envisioned a new, elevated structure. This would be interesting given the potential gradient between the southern end of the T2T trench and the climb required to get up and over this hypothetical structure.

I would say that Urbanstone Central would be acquired, so we'll probably see the structure to the west of the current road.

Even with Urbanstone gone I don't see how they can stay at grade and keep both the cemetery and the brickworks, the turn would be too tight

is it actually wide enough in that section to have 3 lanes each way plus the surface roads as well?
