Just before I took these photos someone was complaining to the station staff that she’d tripped on one of the broken pavers.

This footpath upgrade will be going on until April 2021.

Related to your post about the ramp tenancies too, from Renewal SA:
NEXT STAGE OF ADELAIDE RAILWAY STATION WORKS IS NOW APPROACHING
https://renewalsa.sa.gov.au/next-stage- ... proaching/

The next chapter of the revitalisation of the historic Adelaide Railway Station starts this week.

Commencing from late November, works include the installation of a new kerb and stone paved footpath along the station’s North Terrace frontage and the enhancement of the station’s upper ramp space. The upper ramp will be enhanced through the restoration and repainting of the original vaulted ceiling, the demolition of two non-heritage vacant tenancies, and the installation of architectural feature lighting. These works are anticipated to be completed in early 2021.

Commuter and pedestrian access will be maintained during regular station opening hours, and it will be business as usual for retail and hospitality outlets within the station and along North Terrace.

Site safety is of utmost importance to Renewal SA, safety provisions for people using the railway station and North Terrace will be in place throughout the works. The taxi rank in front of SkyCity Adelaide will be relocated west in front of the Adelaide Convention Centre escalators, from mid-November to mid-December 2020.

These works are a key component of the revitalisation of Adelaide Railway Station, which will see the heritage building and surrounding public spaces uplifted and re-energised over a period of three years.

The goal of the project is to enhance and highlight the architectural style of this iconic building and transform the railway station into a destination in its own right—where people want to spend time instead of just passing through. This will be achieved through the expansion of food, retail and cultural experiences.

I think it's time to close Bank Street to cars. It's feeling a bit dingy.

I don't know whether the council has cut cleaning shifts, but the entire city has been rather dingy for the last few months. There's far more litter about than usual, both because there's not enough bins (in the right places) and the bins we do have are emptied too infrequently. Given COVID, you'd expect to see the street sweepers and sanitisers much more regularly.

I was thinking the same thing today. They've definitely reduced the cleaning along the riverbank, the last few months the area has been covered in bird shit waaaay more than it used to.

Outside the station it looks like there’s some new paving in, as work continues.

Massive improvement. Thanks for the photos Andy.

I had a walk through the area the other day and it's looking good, particularly the station concourse. I am concerned about insufficient/lazy landscaping on Station Road but, in my reading of the plans, there should be more to come. You'd hope at the same time as they're completing the stairs beside the Dunstan Playhouse they'd repair the leaching on the riverbank stairs, which is looking even worse.

Agree SRW, those stairs are a disgrace.

Thanks Andy as always. For what it’s worth, the beige power pole prominent in Andy’s 3rd and 5th pictures protruding through the awnings is one of the original tram overhead supports; probably installed around 100 years ago at a guess. Worth keeping.

Yeah, they retained more of those poles further up North Terrace as well.

Haven't been down there. The photos make it look very inviting!
