Vision: Light Square Tower - 100f / 500m
Re: Vision: Light Square Tower - 100f / 500m
Wouldn't somthing this big be dangerous for development in Adelaide? We would have such a surplus of office space it wouldn't be funny.

In a word, yes. Would much rather have 3 or 4 30 storey buildings.Tom wrote:Wouldn't somthing this big be dangerous for development in Adelaide? We would have such a surplus of office space it wouldn't be funny.

why does it need to be built for 'office space' ..
why can't we have it built so it serves multi purposes ... it can be a tourist info centre, transport info centre, used to display some of SA's art, history, culture, Aboriginal art (especially if on Vic Square), shopping/duty free shopping, a restaurant with views of the city, a tourist destination, lined with cafe's around it .. all these things will hopefeully bring tourists (money) into our city and will employ a number of South Australians.
If its a tower like structure, usually only a few floors are occupied which is perfect for the above uses.
We need something structually interesting and appealing in this city, not another square, green glassed monster like CC1,2. Look at what the Convention Centre did for trade shows in this State .. fantastic futuristic looking thing, something to be proud of for decades, bringing in people from all over the globe to our city.

lets get a few buildings around the 150M mark first, then look at 200M + buildings and then maybe work up to a 500M + building!!!
Looks good though, but not for Adelaide!!!! It would stick out like the proverbial

Way too tall. Looks completely out of proportion. Like Stelaras said, let's aim for 150m first!
Re: Vision: Light Square Tower - 100f / 500m
Where are some serious proposals? We need more 150-200m towers before we start proposing 500m towers
BTW, what has been happening lately to the height restriction on buildings in the city? Does it still exist?

It does seem crazy but has anyone seen Taipei 101? It's currently the worlds tallest completed building and towers over every other building in the city.
The next tallest building when completed, the Burj Dubai will be the same.
I don't see a problem with having a tall building like this if we can support it economically. I just think the mentality of the Adelaide institution is still too "local". Just imagine trying get this approved even if all other conditions are satisfied.

I knew the Chinese takeaway foodbox tower would get mentioned somehow....don't get me started on that hideous monstrosity.

I know something like this is most likely un likely...but why is everyone saying it's too tall and would stand out too much and look ridiculous. Maybe we need something out there like this. Maybe something like this would also get taller buildings built, raise height limits and the like. What kind of tower would it be though? Commercial? Residential? Purely a look out?

The question is does Adelaide (really) need to make that kind of statement? If we got an observation tower wouldn't we be happy with something that would complement any future buildings between 150-250 metres?

I would love to see a observation tower built on the Mt Lofty Summit (replacing the CFS and transmission towers). Imagine the views of the Adelaide Metropolitan and Piccadilly Valley.
There were once plans to build this and a large resort years ago...

On Mount Lofty you don't need to go too high to get a good 360 degree view of Adelaide, Gulf St. Vincent or the Adelaide Hills, etc.crawf wrote:I would love to see a observation tower built on the Mt Lofty Summit (replacing the CFS and transmission towers).
