Now i like the idea of converting the outer harbour line to light rail (see my vision in the suggestion thread) but im not so sure about the noarlunga line that seems like a strange idea, you would have to put ALOT more trams on the line to compensate for the demand, in peak hour you would need one every 5 minutes or less!!!

"Verbandskasten" is the German word for first aid kit. I don't know why there isn't an english version for it, but it's good to have it on board anyway.

Oh, and there were some tram "nerds" talking about Will on the tram yesterday. They were asking each other if they knew you personally, but they didn't. :lol:

Mr Conlon said he hoped the train system would be converted to a light-rail system within the next decade.

"The concrete re-sleepering work sets a base for doing that and that will mean the Outer Harbor line, the Noarlunga line and most of the Belair line will be suitable for conversion," he said. "I have no doubt that one day we'll turn those rail systems into light rail and that will add huge value along the corridors."
Congratulations, you're an idiot. Why the hell would you convert to light rail when it's slower and has lower capacity and the system is already struggling to cope with peak demand?

At 5:17am, 15th of October 2007, the usual band of hardy enthusiasts boarded Flexity 109 at Morphett Rd for the first fare-paying trip to City-West.

Here's the "next stop" sign as we approach the train station.

While staff and passengers were still coming to grips with the new schedules there were a couple of good photo opportunities as Flexitys were in close proximity. First-day niggles will soon pass.

That second pic could be Swanston street... they do have trams down that street right? Anyway that is very Melbourne.

BillD can that second picture go up on wikipedia? It is excellent and would compliment any articles on the trams extremely well.

If you were to upload it and let me know the file name I could do all the rest of the work, adding it to articles etc.

Walking down King William today with a Tram go past, I suddenly felt like I was in Melbourne. One small change I think will make a big impact for a long time to come. It feels like there is progression and more activity now.
Also the look of the medium strip and the trams look visually nicer than what was there before.

Signal problems delay trams

TRAMS ground to a halt on the city's new tramline extension for about an hour this afternoon because of signalling failures.

TransAdelaide said the problem was not track related, but due to an issue with signals at the City South platform, at the intersection of Peacock Rd and South Tce.

Trams were banked up at the City West platform because of the problems.

The trams, which at the time were supposed to run every 7.5 minutes, were not running for at least 40 minutes from about 2.30pm.

TransAdelaide general manager Bill Watson said trams started running again after 3.30pm and the cause of the signalling fault remained under investigation.

Used the trams today on the new extension around lunch time. They are excellent! I love travelling in the middle of the road as oppossed to the side in buses. The views of the city buildings are so much better from the centre of the road. It was a smooth ride and I managed to get off and wait and then go back the other way in very quick times. It makes being in the CBD about ten times better, it is now so easy to get around from one end to the other.

Even small details such as the white rippled paving in the centre of the platform which lines up perfectly with the tram doors to guide the vision impaired inside the tram is excellent. Also helps to know where to wait for easy access to a door as well. Apart from a few teething problems the new extension is great.

Seeing more photos of the new tramline, is getting me more excited to ride the new trams tomorrow lol

This extension is going to make the city much more tourist friendly, especially with it passing Adelaide's main shopping and entertainment precinct, train station/casino and most of the major hotels. :D

Wow. think the demand is unprecidented. I saw MASSIVE Massive crowds at the Pirie St stop spilling onto the road and three trams drove past full. I think they will have to revisit the peak hour schedules. But it is only the first day so of course they wouldn't know what to expect.

Ah, I knew Rann had plans!

Proud day with the trams. Now I can get to Rundle Mall so much quicker (the stations only a block's walk from me) so yay, all good fun.
