[PRO] Hindmarsh Stadium Upgrade
[PRO] Re: Hindmarsh Stadium Upgrade
I proposed this in 2016. Club owner Bruno Marveggio insisted they wanted a new stadium. New owners now, limited progress.
Moving the pitch 30m south and lifting and moving the northern and southern stands with it. East and West stands would remain but with extensions south.

Haha, a slightly classier attempt than my 5 minute Windows Paint job
[PRO] Re: Hindmarsh Stadium Upgrade
No roof over all stands = pointless.
What would the cost be to do that anyway? Move it south and build additional seating, new playing surface, roofing, and all the other things that need to be done?
Compared to probably between, rough guess $200-350 million, to build a whole new stadium elsewhere?
There wouldn't be much room for expansion.
Would the long term plan be to stay there, or at a new location that would allow for expansion?
Adelaide Oval has room for expansion, could become 65,000+.
We won't need that for quite some time on a regular basis.
But soccer, A League, has a lot of room for growth still if the governing bodies got really serious if they wanted to stop being a third rate national league.

I am curious to see the crowds and support this season for the A-league with no Foxtel and subscription needed with Paramount Plus [ch. 10 is doing one free to air game a week] to view it. Considering the season start is only a few weeks away, I have not seen much media reporting or publicity as previous years...

I've bought tickets
They had to be in the Western Stand, so I assume reduced capacity?

Yes, eastern stand is out for the season. Bought GA memberships at the fan day on the weekend, and was given a choice between the northern or southern stands.

The stands could easily have roofs, it was just easier to cut and paste the existing stands. Based on my Windows Paintbrush efforts above I suspect I don't have the skills to mock these up to anything other than a laughable standard.
In terms of costs I just don't know - although I suspect moving the existing ground would offer some options to reuse existing infrastructure (i.e. some or most of the existing east and west stands) as opposed to starting from scratch. Then there's the debate over location and use of public parklands to house a large stadium for an arguably minor sporting code.
Again with expansion I don't know how big you expect soccer to get in this country but with pretty much every major league playing overnight and thousands of miles away how much traction can it really get? There's plenty of room on this site to double the existing capacity and I suspect that will be fine for a few decades if not longer. Maybe it's just my particular social and work circle but aside from a few poms no one ever really mentions the soccer here unless there's a world cup on.
I'll hold my hand up and admit I'm not a soccer fan - but having lived most of my life surrounded by it in the UK I'm pretty happy that it's not so mainstream. I never understood the tribalism and, let's face it, blatant jingoism/racism it normalises and to quite an extent encourages. The blurred lines between some hardcore soccer fans and far-right groups are also disturbing and arguably a product of the culture so ingrained in the game.

At the Member's Day the roof over the Northern and Southern stand were mentioned. They couldn't get them in because there wasn't enough money in the budget and not enough time before the Women's World Cup, but it will still be on the agenda for future funding requests.

As a result of the easing of COVID-19 restrictions and the introduction of the new Test, Trace, Isolate and Quarantine (TTIQ) model within South Australia from next week, Adelaide Venue Management (AVM) has made the decision to make its three venues—Coopers Stadium, Adelaide Entertainment Centre, and Adelaide Convention Centre—fully vaccinated venues.
Effective Tuesday, 23 November, 2021, all persons aged 16+ entering AVM’s venues, including staff, will need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with a vaccine approved by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration. Proof of vaccination will be required in order to gain entry.

The pitch was actually re-laid just prior to the Sydney Olympics in 2000 when the 3 smaller stands were built around 1999/2000. The whole pitch was also shifted (I cant remember if it was northward or southward) to accommodate the end stands.

Great video!
AUFC must continue to push for a full upgrade of the stadium. The current upgrade is half-arsed at best, but any investment into the stadium is welcome.
