[COM] Rundle Lantern
[COM] Re: #U/C - Rundle Convergence
Hmm, it looks better than I expected.
Does anyone have any video links or photos of the similar project overseas?

[COM] Re: #U/C - Rundle Convergence
now that should be awesome!!
but correct me if im wrong
1. were only 9 of the 12 panels working?? if so is it a technical problem?
2. where the people controlling the projection in real time in one of those videos of the brussels building...If so, will our version have a similar option, because i think that would be really awesome

Some inside info on the Lantern.
Construction if the project is approved by Council should start early next year, with completion due for sometime around mid year.
The prototype on the building has the bottom 3 panels not lit as the bottom panels are there to hide the LED units. In the final installation the bottom panels will also not be lit - again to hide the LED units.
The Dexia building had a remote touch screen to interact with the lighting, this was proposed for the Lantern, but currently is not going to happen (budget constraints). It can always be added later.

Hopefully it's a success, the general public love it, and eventually it gets extended to cover the entire carpark, as well as the addition of the touch screen.

This is one interesting project, I cant wait for it to finish. But I cant work out if its the panels themselves that light up, or if its a light behind the panel, or is there a light projected onto the panels from somewhere esle
[COM] Re: #U/C - Rundle Convergence
Thanks very much for the insight into the project dbsa... much appreciated. I did go wow when i saw the interactive screen on the dexia clip, that looks absolutely fantastic, and would be a great drawcard to the east end!dbsa wrote:Some inside info on the Lantern.

Hey jk1237, the light is projected from these lights pictured here.jk1237 wrote:This is one interesting project, I cant wait for it to finish. Sorry for the vulgarity, but as a computer graphics geek I just creamed my pants seeing those videos. The visionary awesomeness of this project for Adelaide can only be understated. The presence of subpixels just squared the awesomness and now it's at a level that is almost enough to make my brainstem snap.
I hope that provision is made for expanding the display to cover the entire façade of the building.
If anyone who's designing this badboy is posting here - what's the resolution, bit-depth and refresh rate?

thats funny Bulldozer. I just had a look at those Brussels videos and (not quite the same extent as above) Im also excited over this project. So ACC, you will approve it and you will start building the rest next week! It will look cool
[COM] Re: #U/C - Rundle Convergence
Pretty exciting, hey?
I cant believe its beginning to happen.
Be gentle with it please folks. It takes a lot of guts to do something really creative like this. Council and Fusion are really sticking their necks out here by taking the risk of doing something that has never been done before but will be astounding.
I forget just how many panels it will have, but think of each one as a programmable pixel. I have said that the key thing is that each pixel/panel is wired to the cpu (like a VDU) then the image and programming options are easy and limitless.
Looked at coldly you might say it wont work for video, of sport or whatever, but I believe it will in a really fantastic giant pixelated way which will turn video footage into giant public art. If this works it will be an absolute ripper! so stay with it, it needs a lot of moral support on the way.

Is that the real Harbo, or an imposter?
I'm really excited about this project... think it's brilliant, and its' great that Adelaide is a leader for once.
Would really love to see it 'extended' in future years if it's a success, so it covers the majority of the car park instead of just a 3rd or so.
Really looking forward to seeing the whole thing lit up, it's going to be brilliant.

Can I just answer this on behalf of Michael. He's no imposter.Matt wrote:Is that the real Harbo, or an imposter?
And let me just say it's good to have individuals like him here who are in touch with the common people. It's much appreciated.

This looks amazing! This would no doubt add a great vibe to the streetscape at night.
