Seems like they could’ve taken the opportunity to remove the dog-leg intersection at Grenfell Road given the large nature strip surrounding the roads. Yes it would require some excavation on the western side, but it’s feasible. The intersection at Milne Road would be more complex due to the creek that runs beneath the western side to the nearby lake and the ambulance station on the eastern side, but why not remove that one while they’re at it as well?
GGR is a significant thoroughfare and even though buses are getting priority they’ll potential still have to tackle four intersections where there could instead be only two. Judging by the comments on the Facebook post some people would’ve liked the money go to duplicating GGR from Grenfell Road to The Grove Way.

The point I suppose that Golden Road upgrade stage 2 has a very limited scope, the entire point of the project is to add bus jump lanes, not spend 10s of millions on intersection realignment. It's primarily to increase the reliability and speed of the J1, J2, 548 and the G40, although I would hope that for all this Golden Grove road is actually made a Go-Zone on the go-zone map, as it's a shame it's missing still. This much investment in bus infra. needs to be followed by the service increase.

A costly mistake to not remove the two doglegs, as discussed. While this an improvement over current circumstances, it's a half-assed Liberal project.

Possibly, but do we know how much traffic actually goes across that dog leg, as opposed to entering/exiting Golden Grove Road?

There is significant traffic going through for Grenfell Road.
Milne Road is a lessor concern.
The dog leg for Grenfell hasn't made sense since the 00's when the traffic volume increased that the turn with care for left and right turns in all directions was removed.
This terrible "2x T intersections allows for turn with care" traffic management idea was built for the intersection in the 80's when Wynn Vale was built out and Golden Grove was starting. Prior the road was straight.

Dog leg intersections are quite common to help drivers on the crossing road realise that there is an intersection rather than being dazzled by oncoming headlights and flying through a stop/give way sign without noticing.
Perhaps the dog leg should have been removed when the traffic lights were added, or would sight lines make it hard to see the lights too?

The busway tunnel in Brisbane would work well under Grenfell Street and Currie Street.

We don't need a bus tunnel under Grenfell/Currie !
Let's turn Grenfell/Currie into a transit mall.....buses and service vehicles and taxis only, an above ground solution.
And it's probably $300 million cheaper than a bus tunnel !

An east-west bus tunnel across the city is a wonderful idea. Regardless of how bus-friendly Curry and Grenfell Streets are, the fact remains there is still traffic trying to move north-south, which means multiple intersections buses need to stop at. A bus tunnel could take buses off the o-bahn, move people quickly across the city, then out the other side to the western suburbs and airport.

Smart validators for Metrocards and credit cards are coming for O-Bahn buses.
Introducing new smart validators

With the aim of making public transport simpler, safer and easier to use, we’re updating our ticketing system in stages.
We started with a ‘pilot’ stage, when we introduced tap and pay on trams so you could pay with Visa, Mastercard or your smart device.
Now, we’re in the second stage of the upgrade, which means we’re replacing the end-of-life validators on trams and O-Bahn buses with smart validators.
At first, the smart validators will only accept metroCARDs. From mid-2022, they’ll accept metroCARDs plus Visa and Mastercard payments.
During this stage of the upgrade, there will be different types of validators available on board.
O-Bahn buses will accept metroCARD and MetroTicket payments.
Trams will accept metroCARD, MetroTicket and credit card payments (Visa and Mastercard).
You will still be able to validate a paper MetroTicket on all Adelaide Metro vehicles (but you cannot purchase MetroTickets on board buses, which are cashless).
You will still be able to tap and pay with your Visa or Mastercard on trams, as the existing Tap and Pay pilot validator will stay where it is.
If you choose to pay for your tram fare with a Visa or MasterCard, you will be charged for one regular metroCARD fare (peak or off-peak) and can transfer between trams for two hours.
If you need to transfer to a different service, or travel with a concession fare, tap and pay may not be your best fare option. Use our fare finder to learn more about Adelaide Metro fares or call the Adelaide Metro InfoLine on 1300 311 108 (open 7am-8pm daily) for more information.
