Ive been watching the progress while catching the train and could see that they were gonna start paving very soon.

Just from looking at the progress in those photos, it doesnt really seem like they have much to do? From what I've seen in other road projects, once they start paving/taring the roads, there almost finished?
I guess once they complete that, theres generally the just the smaller things to finish like lighting, painting, signage, landscaping, etc.....

Can't wait till its complete!!!

From what I could see today, more paving done & railings installed on the HBR approach, with drainage still being installed in Glover Avenue, but progressing well. Footpath on eastern side of James Congdon Drive appears close to completion. 12 months yesterday since bridge closed, so work has gone much to time; completion very close. I'm looking forward to a walk-through, prior to official opening, if they have one!

but lots from August on that I haven't got around to working on yet.
I'm looking forward to the opening, and from what I understood Patrick Conlon as saying
on radio earlier this week, underpass will have dedicated bus / taxi transit lanes between
West Tce & South Rd, to speed up access times to the airport. I haven't seen a press
release about it, but it might mean the full length of Glover Avenue will need widening.

I presume that grey sheeting between the earth and the road is a moisture barrier - does anyone know for sure what it is and why it's being used? I don't recall ever seeing such a technique being used in road construction before.

I thought it was a moisture barrier too, as flooding has been a problem in that area, but it looks a bit like a thin layer of underfelt, coarse & not waterproof (?), & I'm not sure what it does, either.

This is geotextile fabric and it is used to stabilise the soil to reduce cracking in the bitumen. It acts like steel mesh does in reinforced concrete. It is permeable to allow moisture to pass through.

Geotextile was my second guess. I presume its purpose is to provide a sort of "lubricant" between the soil and road so that the soil can contract and expand with the seasons without being connected to the roadbase? Either way, it will be interesting to see if the technique is used with other road projects around Adelaide.

The southern slip lane from James Congdon Drive to Henley Beach Road was in use today, with the eastern side of the JCD road bridge. Eastern JCD footpath still to be completed.
