That is sad. They're quite the valued local business.Pistol wrote:Was talking to the guys in the fodder shop and they said they were told to pack their bags…

There's a fodder shop in Port Adelaide? Is it's customer base truckloads of live export cattle and sheep? Or are there herds of livestock I'm unaware of on the flats around Barker Inlet?
Re: News & Developments: Port Adelaide
So the new hotel by the British is going to be called "Quest 2".... couldn't they come up with a better name than that!
At least try and use a name that has a connection to the area...and the design looks pretty ho hum.
It's a pity that the Rydges and the the Marine Harbors board hotels didn't get up before this latest proposal came along.

A very thriving business that, like Chilly said, is valued by the local community.
Hoping they relocate and don’t just shut completely.

New designs have been released of one of Port Adelaide’s newest cultural developments – Yitpi Yartapuultiku.

A new Aboriginal cultural centre and space is set to become the new and “inclusive heart of the Port Adelaide area”.
Yitpi Yartapuultiku, meaning Soul of Port Adelaide in English, will be a culturally safe and nurturing centre built alongside the Port River.
New artist impressions of the space, designed in collaboration with the local council, the Port Adelaide Enfield Aboriginal Advisory Panel and the local First Nations Community, show an area where people can immerse themselves in culture.
Port Adelaide Enfield Mayor Claire Boan said the project has seen “ground breaking collaboration” between various groups.
“Since it’s inception (two years ago), this groundbreaking project has been co-led with Aboriginal custodians to create a destination where people from all backgrounds can share, learn and experience our rich heritage,” she said.
“At its core, Yitpi Yartapuultiku aims to heal and bring the community together.”
Ms Boan said the project has so far empowered Aboriginal people through the design and decision making process.
“The journey towards the realisation of Yitpi Yartapuultiku has been marked by a commitment of respect, deep listening, collaboration and shared learning between the City of PAE, Ashley Halliday Architects, Wax Design and the Yitpi Yartapuultiku Aboriginal Custodian Group,” she said.
Mayor Boan said the new area will foster “a deep sense of connection to the coastal and river environment and promotes cultural preservation”.
“Once open, it will offer a diverse and engaging program of activities for people of all ages and backgrounds.”
The centre previously won the Planning with Country award for South Australia in the 2022 Planning Institute Australia Awards.
Construction is expected to commence this year, with the completed project ready for launch in 2025.

Article on ABC news today about there only being two public toilets in Port. Why not just remove all of them? It will reduce maintenance costs, and cleaners will have less on their hands. It's a win-win for all, provided they don't need the loo.
I personally think that surburban Adelaide lacks in these facilities. The so-called 'Exeloo's in Hindmarsh Square are a disgrace. The buttons are covered in soot/bacteria. The floors are filthy, and they generally wreak. They should be replaced with standard rest rooms, like those at Glenelg by Colley Tce. Strangely, the Adelaide station toilets seem to be in a reasonable state.
Wasn't sure where to post this.

Every exeloo is absolutely awful. Not one older than 2 weeks has a lowering seat that works, and everything square inch of them is permanently wet.MT269 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 24, 2023 1:59 pmArticle on ABC news today about there only being two public toilets in Port. New multi-million-dollar footbridge will connect Port Adelaide’s waterfront community
Port Adelaide is set to witness a significant transformation with the construction of a multi-million-dollar footbridge that will connect both sides of the dock, enhancing accessibility for residents and the community.
South Australian builder BluBuilt, based in Largs North, has been awarded the contract to design and construct the 80-meter footbridge as part of the Dock One waterfront housing development, ushering in a new era for the inner harbour.
The Dock One project, a 750-home master planned community, is currently underway, and the footbridge will serve as a vital link between the two sides of the development. Renewal SA led the successful tender process and chose BluBuilt to deliver this ambitious project.
“We recognise the rapidly transforming Port precinct needs the right infrastructure in place to support its growing population,” Minister for Housing and Urban Development Nick Champion says.
“Delivering this bridge is a vital component of the Dock One development, as more residents call the waterfront home and build their wider community.”
The jetty-style footbridge will be located at the western end of Dock One, offering a pedestrian and cyclist connection from Port Adelaide’s bustling retail hub to the emerging maritime heritage precinct at Dock Two.
Besides facilitating access to the surrounding areas, the bridge will also improve connections to public transport along St Vincent Street, benefiting current and future residents on either side of Dock One.
“This important development will greatly enhance connectivity and activate the entire area, supporting growth in the west and benefiting residents and visitors alike,” City of Port Adelaide Enfield Mayor Claire Boan says.
In addition to its role in enhancing connectivity, the new footbridge will be a central feature of Dock One, which is expected to provide a substantial housing boost to Adelaide’s western region and support the high-skilled worker population required for the AUKUS submarine program, to be based near Port Adelaide.
BluBuilt’s low-profile and low-maintenance design was selected for its seamless integration with the current promenade and surrounding landscape, aligning with community needs while preserving waterfront views for residents. The bridge will also have adequate clearance for small vessels, such as kayaks and dinghies, to pass underneath.
The joint funding for the footbridge comes from Renewal SA and Adelaide-based developer Kite Projects, which is responsible for the Dock One development. Construction of the footbridge is set to commence in mid-next year, creating over 120 jobs during its implementation. To further boost local employment, BluBuilt will collaborate with Port Adelaide subcontractor Maritime Constructions, responsible for constructing the bridge’s piles.
Port Adelaide’s waterfront is poised for a complete transformation, with Kite Projects also undertaking the construction of an 8-meter-wide waterfront promenade from the footbridge. The promenade will envelop the eastern side of the Port River and extend beneath the Port River Expressway to the City of Adelaide Clipper Ship, enhancing the area’s appeal as a tourism hotspot.
BluBuilt, known for its impressive track record on projects such as the Minda Dunes Coast Park at North Brighton, Sturt River Pedestrian Bridges, and Hall Crescent Boardwalks, is expected to deliver an exceptional footbridge that will shape the future of Port Adelaide.
“We expect that this jetty-style design, whilst understated, will be a drawcard, in a similar way that the Granite Island Causeway or the Busselton Jetty are,” BluBuilt General Manager Owen Richards says.
With construction set to begin soon, the footbridge is anticipated to open to the public by late 2024, coinciding with the completion of Stage 4 civil and building works on the northern side of the Dock One development.

Great idea, but I can't help feeling they could have done something slightly more exciting from an architectural perspective. This one looks like it's been designed specifically to complement the Birkenhead Bridge.

Dock One have released a new render of the Colac development. No clues as to whether it's going to be a pub again, but the render has people drinking outside, so fingers crossed.
"Reviving history with a modern twist! Works are currently underway for the Colac Hotel, transforming it from its 1885 roots into a 2024 gem. Stay tuned!
Life at Dock One is one of vibrancy. Embrace the rejuvenation of the Port’s local historic venues, all within walking distance!" [Source: Dock One Facebook]
