Are you sure it isn't just a mid-year sale? My wife shops at Burnside (and Zara from time to time) and she promptly shut me down at the mention of a closing down sale.

Yeh I don’t know I haven’t checked it out myself just heard it from a friend which is why I asked. Hopefully they were mistaken.

A few weeks ago (03/06/2020) some revelling of the site was done and some rock filled drains were installed to improve the run off and stop the site from becoming water logged. That is all that has happened on site since demo was completed. Please click on picture for bigger.

From Shopping Centre News:
Big brands shop for space at Burnside Village

Burnside Village, located in Adelaide’s eastern suburbs, has signed several high-profile retailers

South Australia’s number one fashion and lifestyle shopping centre, owned by the Adelaide based Cohen Group, has added some big names to its tenancy list.

Burnside Village, located in Adelaide’s eastern suburbs, has signed several high-profile retailers including international brands Hugo Boss and Polo Ralph Lauren.

The centre, which is anchored by Coles and South Australia’s only Zara store, is made up of 100 speciality shops. It was ranked as Australia’s number two performing centre by total sales (MAT) in the annual Shopping Centre News 2020 Mini-Guns category.

Hugo Boss has agreed to lease a prime corner flagship store opposite Zara, due to open in early 2021. Polo Ralph Lauren will be opening prior to Christmas 2020.

In September, Seed Heritage opened its new two-level 500+m2 Seed Heritage flagship store on the opposite corner to Zara and the proposed Hugo Boss. Footwear retailer, Tony Bianco, is also opening a new store before Christmas 2020.

Colliers’ Head of Retail Leasing in South Australia, Ben Laycock, said: “Having closed its city store in January 2019, Hugo Boss is thrilled to bring its latest fit out and its full men’s and ladies’ suit and fashion range to Burnside Village.

“The quality of the centre and the calibre of co-tenants at Burnside Village made Brandbank’s decision to expand its Seed Heritage brand and establish a flagship store at Burnside an easy one,” said Laycock. “Scanlan Theodore, one of Burnside Village’s top performing fashion stores has also shown confidence in the centre by extending its current lease. Meanwhile, a new lease to Lorna Jane signals the strength of the Ladies Active Leisurewear category, joining the highly successful Lululemon store at the centre.”

Burnside Village has also recently undertaken a refurbishment of the Village Market anchored by Coles. Four new leases have been signed with Sushi Hub, Mr Cheese, Dumpling Lab and Chi Body Spirit.

“In addition, existing popular retailers Haydon’s Butcher, the Village Bakery and Let Them Eat have all re-committed to longer term leases and undertaken new fitouts, and South Australia’s unique Tony & Marks will expand its store and offering,” he added.

Cohen Group CEO, John Blunt, said: “Burnside Village had recovered strongly since June with total centre traffic close to prior year levels and sales higher than 2019. This reflects our strong tenancy mix, premium presentation, easy access with undercover parking and convenient suburban location.”

Burnside Village has an adjacent cleared development-ready site of about 10,000m2 with prime frontage to both Greenhill and Portrush Roads. The Cohen Group has plans to expand Burnside Village once there is more certainty with economic conditions.

In the past week they've dug a reasonable-sized hole near the "Portrush/Greenhill intersection... then filled it back up.

From the Advertiser
Proposed $350m Burnside Village redevelopment boots cinema for 24-hour gym

Amended plans for the long-awaited shopping centre redevelopment have revealed drastic changes in what is a sad day for cinema lovers. See the new designs.

Long-standing plans to redevelop Burnside Village have taken a dramatic turn with developers of the $350m project lodging alterations to the original proposition.

Plans first introduced in early 2019 presented the possibility of a cinema for the redeveloped site, but the latest changes reveal the originally mooted cinema had made way for a 24-hour “gym and lifestyle facility”.

An imposing seven-storey “office tower” on the corner of Greenhill and Portrush roads and a proposed medical centre have also been shelved with owner the Cohen Group opting for an “upmarket” three-storey equipped with a golden facade instead.

The approvals were presented at Tuesday night’s Burnside Council meeting by group chief executive Gregg Downer, project planner Brenton Burman and family member Andrew Cohen.

Mr Downer said the removal of the cinema had come as a result to changing attitudes towards the movies.

“There will not be cinemas in this new proposed development. This is as a consequence of the change in the entertainment industry and we’re looking more directed towards lifestyle,” Mr Downer said.

Mr Burman said the variation application was “very similar” to the original application supported by council and approved by the State Commission Assessment Panel in 2019.

With the office tower plan aborted, the new artist impressions highlighted a “large glazed atrium diagrid roof” spanning much of the shopping mall.

Mr Burman said the “feature” roof was designed to reflect the iconic glass roof village shoppers had become familiar with.

The amendment would also see a reduction of 45 car parks from the original proposition and the removal of an established river red gum tree valued by the council at $160,000.

The development was halted in April 2020 with the owners citing difficulties stemming from the Covid-19 pandemic as the cause.

Demolition works had already started about a month before, but it was at that point construction was ceased.

That was until April last year when the owners were inspired to revitalise and reboot the expansion and discussed the prospects of development alterations being put forward before the end of 2021, with construction hoped to begin by January.

Rumblings from the flattened site then foreshadowed the council meeting presentation despite the Cohen Group laying low about the changes in the lead up.

The plans were presented to council as it considered affixing a common seal of council to a new land management agreement stemming from the development amendments with a vote expected at a future meeting.
