It's so strange that it's only one level. If I were Myer Centre I would have come to whatever leasing terms necessary to get them to also activate either LG or L1.

It's a shame that multi story retail arcades aren't popular in SA.

Rundle Place would be the perfect place to re-create a smaller version of The Emporium in Melbourne, they could gut the old Harris Scarffe store and turn it into 2 additional floors of stores.

Unfortunately even if they were to do it, I couldn't see it working.

I don't think it's a case of them being unpopular, but a cultural fixation with attached carparking.

There's a lot of retail space in the mall. Self fulfilling cycle where people are less likely to go to higher levels, and there are another alternate properties around that businesses can choose to rent elsewhere, which means less incentive to go to higher levels, and so on.

HSBC opening between Westpac and Nike in the former mall. Not sure if they are moving from Grenfell/Gawler Place.

I agree

It's the same with H&M, I have no idea why they weren't offered the ability to have a full sized store when there was more than enough space available. Why have it empty when you have a retailer who could use the space at a reduced amount?

With H&M, that space has not been used for years so why not just let H&M have the space cheap so they can have a full sized store?

1. We don't know the offer wasn't made.
2. For some landlords it can be better to have some vacant space with the areas that are rented at a higher $ per sqm cost than to have the whole lot rented at a lower rate. Affects property valuations and the like.

The first Uniqlo casualty?

Re Uniqlo not extending to the first floor in Rundle Mall:

- the current store feels very cramped compared to others in Australia and around the world
- from what I've seen, it's not unusual for Uniqlo stores to operate across multiple levels. The one in Melbourne CBD has three. But they seen to prefer retaining their own foot traffic, which means any escalators are located within the store - not sure if this was a sticking point in the Myer Centre negotiations, because the escalator configurations in the Myer Centre are a disaster.

Is the Myer Center getting fully reclad? The Western facing walls are all black now, it will be a big change if we see the old faded yellow go. :D

The Rundle Mall should be activated more at night. I know McDonalds in Rundle Mall (West) used to have dining on second floor. Alfresco dining in mall would be good too

HSBC has opened in the former entrance to Rundle Square — which means that entire old foodcourt area is permanently blocked off. An odd decision.

Now let’s bring some big retailers.
