Dialling back any concerns about urban character and looking at the fundamental location, is apartment living by a 10 lane road really living the dream?

You're talking about a tiny section of Anzac Highway fronting South Road?

Not everyone needs Bonnie Doon. Especially in a housing crisis, a well connected and well priced home will do just fine.

Making Anzac Hwy and the other roads more people friendly is always a good idea too.

In what way, how do we do that?

Agree, but this is very difficult to do on a 6 lane arterial road that's a key route to and from the city.

It's at least a pleasant road with lots of trees and greenery, but not a fun road to cross for pedestrians.

Improving the quality of tree coverage and maintenance of the existing verges/median/footpaths for one. There are plenty of spots along the section from Marion Rd to Ashford where it feels barren in summer. On the footpaths you also feel very close to the traffic in my experience.

For pedestrian crossing, there's obviously not much that can be done without making the road even busier than it is (without delving into other policy areas). A key bit is the Kurralta Park Shops at least. You need to walk to either Beckman St or South Rd to access a pedestrian crossing, which is not friendly for mobility impaired people or those with shopping taking the bus to the south. At least a pelican crossing should be added here.

As reported over on the Defence thread, the State Government appears to have received the Keswick Army Barracks in a swap with the Feds for land around the Osborne ship building site. https://www.sensational-adelaide.com/fo ... 85#p209485

It's a massive site and, apart from the main building at the city end, is not the best gateway for people heading from the CBD to Glenelg. Will be interesting to see what happens with the row of commercial between the Barracks and the Lecornu site, if they can acquire the lot it will be a great canvas to work with. I think this is a better spot than the Bowden/Brompton developments. Might even end up having the Crows HQ here....

Good news, we've long waited the unlocking of this site. The heritage buildings may be useful for a high school, the site remainder for residential low-mid rise. The prospect of a few thousand new residents here again shows the idiocy of alienating nearby parkland.

There's currently a bit of work happening at this site. Anyone know for what? Given action is happening at the perimeter, I assumed fencing.

I believe the work happening was mainly related to piping infrastructure along the western perimeter.

It's great this site is now unlocked, and is a golden opportunity for a car-free precinct of high residential density. It is one of the most strategic locations in metropolitan Adelaide in terms of access, especially by public transport (very high frequency of bus routes in multiple directions, rail services to/from Flinders/Belair/Seaford, and a fifteen-minute walk to the tram) and on foot/by bike. It was actually my preferred location for a new RAH/WCH years ago for these reasons.
