Weirdly, I'll miss the post-modern styling. It reminds me of my local shopping mall from my teenage years - that's been renovated too
The post modern style has its place there but on a direct comparison setting that aside, this proposal softens what is a huge bulky wall and is more sympathetic to the public realm imo. I like it, but there's no denying for me that the current building is an iconic image from my childhood.
Btw I think the perspective is making the centre look noticeably shorter and that is a factor in it looking better. I don't see the reality matching the render.

Is the office tower getting reclad as well?
Also from those renders it looks kinda like they're putting the new stuff over the top of the existing material? If so will be funny in 30 years when it's removed to return the building to a 90s heritage look.

Not sure that a big reflective cladding wall of glass that extends upon the existing size, bulk, and scale of the original building is more sympathetic and soft than what’s already there. The Myer Centre is a good example of Postmodern architecture but once again, Adelaide has no interest in preserving examples of architectural styles and will continue on the path of contemporary amorphous greige glass aesthetics that don’t inspire or ignite imagination or conversation once they’ve established themselves in the streetscape. Postmodern architecture was designed to do all of that and forever, until the day the structure was pulled down. And the Myer Centre is doing just that, 30+ years on. The same can’t be said about Rundle Place.

Inevitable considering the overall re-clad, I do my mind ot but looks as though they are going to slap some new cladding over the top rather than redesign the facade properly (based on the corner entrance glass section, which appears to be over the top of the existing facade rather than replacing it). I like the new look but more could have been done with the entrance portions the glass look is quite bland.
Also, any idea of whenever they will continue this look onto the clock tower on North Terrace?

I quietly love the Myer Centre's unique architecture. It's iconic.
This proposal is at once flat and messy, and gives heavy hints of the worst of the cladding wrongs of the 1960s.
One render does hold promise. Imagine if some of these batons were an integrated lighting feature that could help enliven the mall at night:

Thanks for confirming! That's something to appreciate, I guess.

The lighting at night will probably be it's only redeeming feature based on some of those renders.
That south east facing entry especially makes it look like a suburban office block.

Speaking of the Myer Centre:

New facade by the end of the year.
dreadful
it removes that Legoland style entrance which was the most interesting aspect of the building and replaces it with a depressing and unimaginative austere rectangle
yuck

Lip stick on a pig, funny that the owners are rushing this external work but the interior is a disaster.

I wonder if Myer's recent noise has anything to do with their haste.

I do hope the interior can be next. We may see some action on the upper levels if the venture by Archie Brothers in Rundle Place proves successful. Maybe not quite a revival of Dazzeland, but something.
