[SWP] Lot 14 (Old RAH Site)
[SWP] Re: Lot 14 (Old RAH Site)
I would love to see a national indigenous cultures centre in Australia and preferrably Adelaide, but struggle to comprehend how a centre in Adelaide would put us "on the map" more so than centres listed interstate in the excellent article that gnrc_louis posted on 24/4.
Perhaps time for a new idea for the site that is unique and difficult to replicate…

I can see the argument might apply to Malinouskas vs Marshall but given some of the 'interesting' characters on the former Liberal government's benches I'd be reluctant to apply that to the governments as a whole.
Either way, the Malinouskas government has just successfully legislated a voice to SA's Parliament and generally makes positive noises about advancing Aboriginal issues. An Aboriginal Arts and Culture centre feels very much up their street so to appear to be gradually backing away from the proposal suggests to me that all is not as rosy in the business case department as some would hope.
I might be completely wrong - the government might decide to throw another $100M at the project to make it, hopefully, a truly world-class institution. If the numbers stack up and benefits materialise then I'll be fully supportive of the venture.

What about we think big and think to the future. Every man and their dog are doing indigenous galleries.
What about a museum of Space History and Exploration, right next to the Space agency. Build something futuristic, unique and adaptable.
Incorporate a GoMaFA
Gallery of Modern and Future Art

Maybe instead of exhibits under the generic banners of "Indigenous Australian" or "Aboriginal culture", a new gallery could focus on the diversity and difference across our first nation cultures. We all know the name of the group named in a Welcome to/Acknowledgement of Country, but how many of us can actually describe the differences between Kaurna, Ngadjuri, Narungga, Peramangk and Ngarrindjeri (all close to Adelaide) for example? Not just where they live(d), but how are they different from the neighbours in the way we can distinguish Croweaters from Sandgropers or French from Germans?

Given his stance on suburban sprawl, and not being a fan of public transport, it would seem he is more conservative

Not sure how genuine artefacts are ‘fraudulent’? I don’t have a problem with people seeing this site as having other potential but you’ve defended yourself as not having a chip on your shoulder about Aboriginal matters (education, culture and the like) but you make comments that kind of sound like it… Not having a go, just trying to understand what your resounding negativity towards this project and seemingly broader education of these cultures is?abc wrote: ↑Sun May 07, 2023 12:54 pmeverythingrev wrote: ↑Sun May 07, 2023 11:48 amWhat the does this shit have to do with this development?abc wrote: ↑Fri May 05, 2023 5:00 pmIndigenous art sector says sales have dropped after allegations of interference by white staff at Tjala Arts

The sheer breadth of our state’s collection would set us part.rogue wrote: ↑Fri May 05, 2023 1:17 pmI would love to see a national indigenous cultures centre in Australia and preferrably Adelaide, but struggle to comprehend how a centre in Adelaide would put us "on the map" more so than centres listed interstate in the excellent article that gnrc_louis posted on 24/4.

the area was promised by the Rann government as being earmarked to return to parklandsPatrick_27 wrote: ↑Sun May 07, 2023 10:02 pmNot sure how genuine artefacts are ‘fraudulent’? instead we have a cynical political vanity project which won't put this place on the map any more than a one way freeway when we have under resourced critical infrastructure in need of funding
if we had such rich world class artefacts in storage then they'd be in the museum and art gallery in place of the existing items which aren't bringing people from all over the world to visit

Rann promised a portion to be returned, nothing ever as large as that.abc wrote:the area was promised by the Rann government as being earmarked to return to parklandsPatrick_27 wrote: ↑Sun May 07, 2023 10:02 pmNot sure how genuine artefacts are ‘fraudulent’? Nevertheless, not the first and won’t be the last time that policies and decisions change.

Is there somewhere that describes this collection? Google has not been my friend here.Patrick_27 wrote: ↑Sun May 07, 2023 10:04 pmThe sheer breadth of our state’s collection would set us part.
Does it have significant breadth and diversity to allow meaningful rotation, or is it just large?

It's telling that you see no problem with the rest of the development occurring on the old rah site..
