If they've gone to the effort to put signage on the building, then surely that's an indication that nothing will be happening for a while?

I would suggest the opposite.I'd say the signage is actually safety screens, to mitigate dust in internal demolition. Once the demo reached the perimeters, we should see more substantial gantries, fences and barriers installed.SouthAussie94 wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2023 1:27 pmIf they've gone to the effort to put signage on the building, then surely that's an indication that nothing will be happening for a while?
Multiplex don't typically site on sites, I hope this is a positive sign of progress!

I would have thought the opposite based on observations of construction sites. They usually plaster their signage around a sites perimeter when work is about to commence?SouthAussie94 wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2023 1:27 pmIf they've gone to the effort to put signage on the building, then surely that's an indication that nothing will be happening for a while?

I am not sure why a large international company like Multiplex would put up signage / dust control barriers unless work was imminent. If the site was to remain dormant, nothing would have changed.
There is still nothing in the SCAP agenda for an increase in height of the apartments - maybe Multiplex will just start the demolition anyway.

Don't think there is much to be worried about. Last we heard demolition works were beginning in June, and the site is changing in a way that reflects that timeline.

The car park is yet to have had any changes made to its layout to accommodate the removal of the arcade building (which is plays a vital role in exiting traffic onto Gouger Street), so if demolition is imminent, they’re really cutting it down to the wire on that front.

There's an exit from the part that will remain open, can "they" just fence off the line between the buildings with water-filled barriers to discourage cars from ploughing through? Once crane access is possible from the other side, the water could be replaced with concrete.Patrick_27 wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2023 6:00 pmThe car park is yet to have had any changes made to its layout to accommodate the removal of the arcade building (which is plays a vital role in exiting traffic onto Gouger Street), so if demolition is imminent, they’re really cutting it down to the wire on that front.

Spotted these on my way home. Temporary fencing for the site?

Construction (and the associated design, planning, approvals etc) is a slow and complicated process. I don't think it has anything to do with the location.VinyTapestry849 wrote: ↑Sat May 13, 2023 1:38 pmYall ever just sit back, relax, and realize how fuckin slow this city is at getting something done? Do you think a similar development would be moving faster in a different city?
[U/C] Re: Central Market Arcade Redevelopment | 130m | 39 levels
In Dubai and China it'd be going faster that's for sure. But apples and oranges.

Why would it be progressing any faster in Melbourne?

Definitely apples and oranges, including a whole heap of missing worker safety protections, pay, and build quality.
For those who think this is slow - just remember it was deliberately slowed down to allow the Market to trade without major disruption ahead of Christmas/summer.

Australia 108, Melbourne's current tallest took for ever to get off the ground. So even in places like Melbourne, its a long, some times drawn out process.
