The North Terrace tram extension to the East End was a Budget surprise.
Sure. That's the point. It was announced before tenders went out.

Is there any indication as to when the pedestrian crossings at North Adelaide, Ovingham and Islington will be switched on? And further to that, when the Gawler line will 100% be electric? Sorry if this has been posted previously but can't find any info.

I heard from someone who works in rail in the east that some big tenders have recently gone out for a major rail project in Adelaide, I'm led believe it's the Brighton grade separation project
Just revisiting this to speculate - maybe the Emerson project? Technically this is part of an 'announced' project: T2D.

Pretty sure this will be for the tram grade separation or the Port Dock extension. Tenders don't go out for unannounced projects.

Requests for Tender tend to have quite clear descriptions, so if teh project wasn't already announced, it would be with the release of an RFT. Might this be something more general, seeking companies to pre-qualify for upcoming restricted tenders, or seeking Expressions of Interest for unspecified projects where SA wants to contract the concept design, not just the construction?

Please be the CBD tunnel that we've been waiting on for 100 years.

The Ovingham N crossing had been scheduled for late March the tentatively rescheduled for Easter but had not been done then either. Axle counters were fitted to the track in March.

4029 appeared at Dry Creek at start of March and 4030 in mid April. I saw 4030 in service today (for I believe the first time). Strangely 4029 has yet to enter service. The new units are being delivered about every 6-8 weeks. There are 4 more to be delivered. I reckon they could all be Inservice by the end of the year.

At present the off-peak timetable has 7 electric workings and 2 diesel, while the PM peak has 9 electric and 5 diesel. The evening and weekend timetables have been all electric since last year. The entire electric fleet rotates between the Seaford/Flinders and Gawler lines and majority of servicing and maintenance is done at Dry Creek.

Are the numbers for individual railcars or does a number such as 4029 refer to a whole set of 3?

Since the 3 cars are semi-permanently coupled, the units are given a single number. Between the cars the couplers are not automatic and there are traction current cables from the trailers to the motor drive units.

There are numbers allocated to the individual cars: thus unit 4001 comprises cars 4101, 4201 and 4301. These numbers show up in the SIRI real-time feed. In the GTFS-R feed the unit numbers are reported.

If they can run 9 electric in the peak, why don't they run 9 electric and 0 diesel in the off-peak?

Very short shorted not to consider Outer Harbor for electrification.
