There is one other restriction that the Sunday Mail never touched on in the article. Since 1986 when Glengowrie Depot was built, the DOWN platform at Morphett Road has been located within the middle of the depot triangle and with the traingle track connecting to the mainline at either end of the platform, it cannot be expanded. The platform is also used as crew change over point which is conviently right next to the depot entrance.
If this platform didn't see itself located where it is, then it would be possible for every other stop on the line to be lengthened. The Flexis can be coupled together but I don't think that they are set for MU use and are only used for dead towing. If the platforms were longer, then it could be possible for coupled trams.

I think the best thing that can be done is to add another compartment to the trams, an easy solution that would mean the platforms wouldn’t need to be expanded. I also think that a new compartment should not have seats. It should just have more straps and "leaning seats" along the edges. maybe they could by some new longer, wider trams to solve the capacity issue?

:wank: :wank:CITY shoppers trapped for up to an hour while exiting major car parks blame traffic congestion caused by the city's new tram extension.
Matilda Bawden, and her two children aged 5 and 15, were among hundreds of frustrated Myer Centre car park users left gridlocked last Friday.
Ms Bawden said congestion at the intersection of North Tce and King William St caused a backlog of traffic to nearby Stephens Place.
"The traffic is backed back from the intersection so it is impossible to turn on to North Tce," she said.
"We were stuck there for about an hour and we hadn't even moved - not even out of the car space.
"If something had happened in there, like a fire or something, we would have had nowhere to go. I ended up calling the police to see if they could help."
Myer Centre manager Peter Lee said delays at the intersection of North Tce and King William St remain the responsibility of the relevant government and transport authorities.
"Centre management understands that some shoppers were inconvenienced last Friday, however, the North Tce traffic situation is beyond our control," he said.
"Management will continue to monitor the situation closely and is pleased to advise that they are currently working with the relevant authorities on proposed improvements to the Stephens Place and North Tce intersection to improve car park traffic flow."
A Transport Department spokesman blamed the North Tce congestion on extensive Adelaide City Council roadworks.

For her to go to this much trouble, talking about it and calling the police, there must have been some congestion. I highly doubt it was anything to do with the trams though. They stop the traffic for a whole 10 seconds. Big deal. Wasn't she turning the other way, away from the trams also?
A few years ago I got stuck in the Tea Tree Plaza car park for 1 1/2 hour. Westfield security saw what was going on and came out directing traffic away from the car park. There were so many people coming in that no one could get out. I guess this was to do with the tram line extension also, nothing to do with just sometimes traffic is worse than other times..

I'm still doubtful.
I'm happy to park there this friday night, trying to get out during peak hour traffic (5pm) just to prove I can make it out. There's no way she would've had to sit there for 1 hr plus.. in all my years in the CBD i've never seen anything like it, the closest would be coming back from skyshow one night parking on the west end a few years back.

Yeah, the only way I can see this happening is if it was the same problem that we had, too many cars coming in meaning no room for anyone to get out. But then even if this is the case then its not the trams anyway.
I think the case more likely is that she is one of the people that hasn't liked the trams since day 1, she was in a hurry, there was lots of traffic due to it being peak time. So she got frustrated and blamed it on the trams.

I was stuck in traffic for about 20 seconds (and i had to travel at 40kmph for a while ) near port adelaide due to road works.
but i blame the trams, its there fault somehow. Oh and world oil prices are going up, damn trams
