A lot of activity on site yesterday, quite a few excavators in action. Didn't have time to take a pic whilst driving in the rain.

It's interesting when you can see a view that hasn't been seen in decades, because the building in the way has gone.

I imagine all that netting on the right is to protect the court building

Apologies if this has already been asked but will this development have a basement?

If I’m not mistaken, I believe there will be one as developer wants the supermarket there however another party / stakeholder wants it on ground level, still TBC.timtam20292 wrote:Apologies if this has already been asked but will this development have a basement?

A basement would be a good provision for a future underground railway station passage or even platform.Vasco wrote: ↑Mon Jun 26, 2023 10:31 pmIf I’m not mistaken, I believe there will be one as developer wants the supermarket there however another party / stakeholder wants it on ground level, still TBC.timtam20292 wrote:Apologies if this has already been asked but will this development have a basement?

I had a squizz today. The Gouger Street frontage is almost gone, but the Grote Street frontage still stands for now.

Any underground rail link would need to be dug deeper than basement-level. The City Loop runs almost exclusively beneath streets and even those stations get decently deep.ChillyPhilly wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 12:02 pmA basement would be a good provision for a future underground railway station passage or even platform.Vasco wrote: ↑Mon Jun 26, 2023 10:31 pmIf I’m not mistaken, I believe there will be one as developer wants the supermarket there however another party / stakeholder wants it on ground level, still TBC.timtam20292 wrote:Apologies if this has already been asked but will this development have a basement?

If there is ever going to be an underground train station in the Victoria Square precinct, it’ll be located directly under Victoria Square. Why? Because they can then dig a cut and cover hole for the station and platforms, rather than creating a bored tunnel station which are horrendously expensive to build. Cost difference? Hundreds of millions for the station itself.

This could be the last week that the Grote Street frontage is there - thank goodness.
