[COM] Victoria Square Upgrade - $24m
[COM] Re: #Proposal: 97m Victoria Square Tower
Don't forget to put a platform around the top with a heap of hideous mobile phone tower/aerials all around it!

i just relised how ugly the myer centre really is from that photomomentkiller wrote:Made my comment and I did a quick copy & paste job of the idea.
whats it supposed to look like? a friggin castle?
[COM] Re: #Proposal: 97m Victoria Square Tower
^^Yes, the Myer Centre is meant to look like a castle.
[COM] Re: #Proposal: 97m Victoria Square Tower
From that aerial shot, CC1 looks like it was built back in 1973 .. no James Blunt reference intended, but its very uninspiring building. I think buildings like Black Stump or the ex ING Building are far more appealing.
[COM] Re: #Proposal: 97m Victoria Square Tower
Though the quality of that photo is pretty dodgy
most of CC2 will be blocked of by the future 30,000sqm tower

Couldn't agree more.talrok wrote:From that aerial shot, CC1 looks like it was built back in 1973 .. no James Blunt reference intended, but its very uninspiring building. I think buildings like Black Stump or the ex ING Building are far more appealing.
I hate hate HATE this crappy green glass that's being used everywhere.
In my opinion, CC1 and 2 look like they're still being built and the builders forgot to take the scaffolding down.
Ugly.
[COM] Re: #Proposal: 97m Victoria Square Tower
Yeah I'm starting to get sick of seeing green glass, please no more!
[COM] Re: #Proposal: 97m Victoria Square Tower
Just off the topic, I love that elevated pic of the CBD. Would be great if we could do a quick helicopter ride over the city, so we could take some more pics. I wonder how much they would charge if we got a group together from here, for 30 mins over CBD
[COM] Re: #Proposal: 97m Victoria Square Tower
UH i can't stand CC1! for such a new building that they talk up so much, it looks pretty ugly IMO!Matt wrote:Couldn't agree more.talrok wrote:From that aerial shot, CC1 looks like it was built back in 1973 .. no James Blunt reference intended, but its very uninspiring building. in the day time u can see thru all the glass and all the blinds (i think they are) are at different levels and contribute to it looking, well, unfinished. and speaking of unfinished, what is happening with the western side of it, all that concrete (and not colour matched) looks ghey. As for Viccy square, like everyone else said, we need 200+ metres. A tower of this height would look stunning towering in the 'centre' of the city (thats if anyone decides to build south of it!!!!). Obviously it should be matched by equally beautiful surrounding gardens.

Personally, I don't think a tower in the middle of Victoria Square is a good idea.
If we want Victoria Square to be Adelaide's main meeting place, outdoor event venue with a decent music bowl thing at one end (as in one of the proposals in the "What's Next for Victoria Square" forum), then a big tower in the middle of the square is going to be very disruptive and won't allow the square to be used for the purposes proposed in the other forum, which, personally, I think would make better use of the square.

If we're planning on holding outdoor concerts there's always the under utilized riverbank precinct. I believe Victoria Square being the focal point of our entire city it should have something symbolic at it's center... like a modern day tower clock, but picture it as a single shard of glass and metal with a lighting display going up it's entirety.
It's just wrong I think to have a road going through it, with a statue in the middle like what we have currently.

Well in a couple of years we'll have gained plenty of experience in tunnelling. Maybe then the square can become whole.Howie wrote:It's just wrong I think to have a road going through it, with a statue in the middle like what we have currently.

I think the experience and know-how is there. We just need the willpower to do it.
Same can be said about many issues we face in the city, a recent example is that when I said buildings should be built higher than what they are currently to a friend, in which he replied, but then you've got to worry about fire escapes and stuff. Totally missed the bigger picture.
