There was a "master plan" (is that more than an artist's impression?) for Playford Alive when it started a decade ago. Newton Boulevard was drawn all the way through to Stebonheath Road and should have been built 6-8 years ago. Curtis Road is the main road past the suburb, but it's also the only current local connection between residential Munno Para West and the schools and shops in Playford Alive-Munno Para. I imagine that completing Newton Boulevard will have an impact on the heavy school-hour traffic by adding another way to/from Mark Oliphant College and Adelaide North Special School.Eurostar wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13, 2023 12:36 pmhttps://renewalsa.sa.gov.au/news/newton ... ford-aliveCivil works will begin within six months on a $40 million residential development at Munno Para, that will pave the way for a major boost in affordable housing in Adelaide’s north.

Renewal SA will master plan and deliver the 16.6-hectare project, as part of the government’s latest major investment in Playford Alive. The new stage is expected to feature a broad mix of allotment sizes providing flexibility for a diverse range of house designs and living options.
The Newton Boulevard development is the latest affordable housing project to be prioritised as part of the government’s A Better Housing Future plan.
It will also act as a catalyst for significant and much needed infrastructure improvements in the area. The state government will support the extension of Newton Boulevard west to meet Stebonheath Road, providing better connections for residents across the suburb, including the creation of a seamless corridor through to Mark Oliphant College and assisting to alleviate traffic congestion on nearby Curtis Road.
The Newton Boulevard extension is targeted to open around October next year.

Re: News & Developments: Elizabeth & Salisbury
Fair enough that they didn't want to rush into things and overbuild for what might not happen, there is instances in Elizabeth area i.e Harvey Road and Blackburn Road was built wide. Neither came main roads.
Re: News & Developments: Elizabeth & Salisbury
Even one carriageway through an otherwise undeveloped (and yet-to-be-subdivided) paddock would have helped with traffic issues.
Re: News & Developments: Elizabeth & Salisbury
X Convenience has been dropped from the development on the corner of Curtis Road and Main North Road (the old Munno Para Bowling Club). Instead we will get drive through "First Things First Coffee", another drive through eatery, another "restaurant with outdoor dining" next to Lone Star and a motor repair/tyre place.

A plan right out of the United States, what a poor development.

Re: News & Developments: Elizabeth & Salisbury
It feels like a very strange place to put a drive-through coffee shop. I guess I'm not its target market, but it feels like it's in a development on the wrong side of both roads, and within the development, it's too far from the entrance/exits.ChillyPhilly wrote: ↑Tue Nov 28, 2023 9:51 amSBD wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 9:19 amX Convenience has been dropped from the development on the corner of Curtis Road and Main North Road (the old Munno Para Bowling Club). It seems like a reasonable site for the bulky goods shops - Sydney Tools, Pet Barn, whatever is coming soon in the yellow and black building. Lone Star seems to be busy despite it being where almost all customers have to come by private car. I haven't seen whether BurgerTec or Zambrero are busy.
Re: News & Developments: Elizabeth & Salisbury
The parking spaces is under capacity too especially considering the growing population in the Playford LGA. The centre should had been multistorey like Bunnings Windsor Gardens whereby the parking is undercover
Re: News & Developments: Elizabeth & Salisbury
The population of the LGA doesn't matter, only the expected concurrent customer load. Some car parks usually have vacant spaces (i.e. larger than necessary) and others almost always full. Anecdotally, so far there have always been vacant parks when I've gone to Lone Star, so I'd say the car park is "large enough". There is at least one other further down Curtis Road in the "main street area" that isn't quite big enough at certain times,

Plans progress for multi-million ice arena in the North
Plans have been officially lodged for a new $20 million multi-sports and entertainment arena in the Northern Suburbs, signaling a significant step forward for this eagerly anticipated project.
Spearheaded by Australian developer Pelligra, the facility, which includes an innovative indoor ice sports arena, is set to transform the Elizabeth area, located at the junction of Main North Road and Philip Highway.
Approved by the Playford City Council, the development forms part of a larger initiative to revitalise the Elizabeth CBD. This ambitious project includes not just the sports arena but also the proposed Playford Innovation Hub.
The arena’s design promises a diverse array of facilities aimed at boosting community engagement and promoting an active lifestyle. Highlights include an elite rock-climbing facility, two indoor sports courts, a state-of-the-art gymnasium, and a variety of hospitality tenancies, including a restaurant.
The centerpiece, an indoor ice sports arena, is poised to be a first-of-its-kind attraction in the region, offering unique recreational opportunities.
Pelligra’s commitment to the project follows their successful acquisition of two specific sites within Elizabeth’s CBD, with the City of Playford partnering closely in the endeavor.
The community consultation process, which began in mid-2021, has played a pivotal role in shaping the project, with an emphasis on creating a vibrant and dynamic city center.
In addition to its recreational and entertainment value, the arena is expected to provide a significant economic boost to the area. It will offer new job opportunities and serve as a catalyst for further investment in the region.
With the plans now lodged, the project is moving from vision to reality. The development is a testament to the growing trend of creating multifunctional spaces that cater to a wide range of public interests and needs. Residents and visitors of the Northern Suburbs can look forward to a new era of sports and entertainment options, with the arena set to open its doors by mid-2024.

A fantastic vision. Let's hope it happens. There is so much space wasted on cars in central Salisbury.

I'm curious who will be funding this, is this a partnership between state and local government, or will the private sector invest?
Re: News & Developments: Elizabeth & Salisbury
Not saying the development is not welcome but one of the largest parts of it will be a 500 space multideck carpark.ChillyPhilly wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 4:34 pmA fantastic vision. Let's hope it happens. There is so much space wasted on cars in central Salisbury.
