[U/C] Central Market Arcade Redevelopment | 130m | 39 levels
[U/C] Re: Central Market Arcade Redevelopment | 130m | 39 levels
This project is a bit of a worry. Nothing happening on site and the excavators remain parked. Maybe Multiplex has not taken over the site from the demolition contractor?
The inactivity has gone on for some weeks - puzzling with so many pre-commitments for the hotel + apartments and the market area.

I'd suggest it is a contractor handover. I wouldn't be too worried.

Possibly the basement excavation and retaining structures has been contracted out to another civil contractor? Sometimes the basement works and superstructure are done by different contractors on some jobs.

No work on the site this week - but I have been looking at this the wrong way.
From the Multiplex signage, it is scheduled to be finished in 149 years

Piling here will be starting soon-ish. Not sure on exact timelines but expect this to ramp up in the near future.

Would like to see some action at least before Christmas, so that's good to know.

Would probably be mid January as there's probably going to be a obligatory Christmas & New Years shut down.Smithy84 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 2:05 pmBy “soon-ish” I assume you mean January?SouthAussie94 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 27, 2023 11:20 amPiling here will be starting soon-ish. It's funny the thinking behind the obligatory Christmas / New Year shut down of any works on site that's seen to 'help' trading in the Market precinct during this period, it's inevitably what's delayed this project by a year. I went to the Markets yesterday and it's evident how the mere closure of the arcade and the loss of that section of car parking (sad as that might seem) has obliterated the previous scores of shoppers going through there (no doubt, I'm sure the economy has played its part too) but I don't think shutting down site works over that period will do anything to better or worse the current reality of shopper figures dropping, but rather the sooner they get on with things and have this completed, the better off the Market precinct will be. Maybe a week or two shutdown isn't that much in the scheme of things construction wise, but this whole project has dragged.rev wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 2:52 pmWould probably be mid January as there's probably going to be a obligatory Christmas & New Years shut down.Smithy84 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 2:05 pmBy “soon-ish” I assume you mean January?SouthAussie94 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 27, 2023 11:20 amPiling here will be starting soon-ish. Tbh, I’m quite annoyed that there is no work occurring here. Delay the demolition by a year, demolition gets underway and is completed only for this to become a quiet site again.
[U/C] Re: Central Market Arcade Redevelopment | 130m | 39 levels
This project is a real worry - Multiplex are a hi-calibre builder of significant projects. So why these ongoing delays. The apartments sold out pretty quickly over a year ago - and there are supposedly tenants lined up for the hotel and some office space. The new market area would generate income, so what is the problem?
This is reminding me of the EIC building at Lot 14 - lots of initial noise and promises - then nothing.
The difference between this Market project and the construction by Synergy (a local builder) of the Victoria Tower opposite is pretty stark.

My only guess is that the site is so huge that maybe they are waiting to start in the new year.

I'm sure there's valid reasons why it's taking longer then other developments.
