I actually like the idea of the solar-powered bus. As for the badly needed redevelopment of Rundle Mall, I want to see those current light poles replaced and maybe repaved.

What about a tram down to East Terrace like Bourke St Mall?

There is nothing wrong with the light poles and paving. The mall does not need a tram. Any money spent on that precinct should concentrate on the lanes and side streets that run off the mall. These side streets is where you will get the greatest return on your investment. They currently detract from the presentation of the mall when they are potentially some of the mall's greatest assets. Look at James Place for a perfect example. I would start with redeveloping Gawler Place as a shared pedestrian and vehicle zone with greatly increased footpath widths to encourage cafe seating in some areas.

I agree, the laneways are key. Though I don't think repaving would go astray, perhaps in a lighter colour and as part of theme that continues down into Rundle and Hindley Streets. Perhaps now might be a good time for them to look at eliminating parallel parking on those streets and extending the footpaths out, at least as far as Frome and Morphett Streets.

I don't think the level of improvement would justify the cost and inconvenience. Far greater bang for buck can be achieved by improving the areas around the mall.

The area around Pirie St probably brings in the greatest revenue for ACC yet Pirie St and the streets around it are disgraceful. Redeveloping Pirie St and the connections through to Rundle Mall should be the Council's priority together with Vic Sq.

I agree that the laneways off The Mall would be more deserving of an upgrade. Some of them are quite padestrian unfriendly with impossibly narrow footpaths and parked cars.

I actually think that there is great potential for James Palce to be upgraded into a lifestyle precinct. James Place is the perfect place for cafes and restaurants. It can easily be transformed into a Melbourne style laneway.
