I left feedback that some of the treatments don't go far enough, and that a painted bike lane is insufficient when this is a golden opportunity for an East-West Bikeway.SRW wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2023 11:01 pmConsultation is open for a proposed Wakefield Street upgrade between Vic Square and Hutt Street to be completed 2024/25. In general, the proposed treatment is similar to that completed for Grote Street between Morphett and West Terrace — planted medians with spotted gums and better lighting/pavement. Long overdue for a primary boulevard. Submissions open till Friday:

Surely it would be safer to put the bikeway away from the city’s main bus corridor?ChillyPhilly wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 9:53 amI left feedback that some of the treatments don't go far enough, and that a painted bike lane is insufficient when this is a golden opportunity for an East-West Bikeway.SRW wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2023 11:01 pmConsultation is open for a proposed Wakefield Street upgrade between Vic Square and Hutt Street to be completed 2024/25. The idea of the bikeways should also be to attract new riders who might not feel very safe on regular city streets. Frome Street is mostly quiet but the bikeway is well-located between Pulteney and Hutt Streets.

Currie/Grenfell is the main bus corridor, not Grote/Wakefield.
I agree though on the bike lane. The council should have grown a pair, told Greg Griffin to shove it, and built it along Franklin/Flinders as their own planners recommended.

Grote-Wakefield is geographically ideal, and it can be a separated bikeway, breaking only for bus stops/zones.Spotto wrote:Surely it would be safer to put the bikeway away from the city’s main bus corridor?ChillyPhilly wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 9:53 amI left feedback that some of the treatments don't go far enough, and that a painted bike lane is insufficient when this is a golden opportunity for an East-West Bikeway.SRW wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2023 11:01 pmConsultation is open for a proposed Wakefield Street upgrade between Vic Square and Hutt Street to be completed 2024/25. Plans are now out for consultation for Flinders Street between Hutt and Pulteney Streets.
Some of the plans include a separated bikeway, so make sure you leave your feedback.

Agree. Can't believe it took this long.
Just goes to show simple things like this can make a big improvement.

Hindley Street upgrade to prioritise pedestrians, outdoor dining
NEWS
Wider footpaths, fewer car parks, tree planting, more garden beds and narrower roads will form part of a major council upgrade of the Hindley Street precinct, aimed at creating more outdoor dining space and better safety for pedestrians.

Francis St, which connects Rundle Mall and Da Costa Arcade, has recently had some drainage issues resolved.
Unfortunately, it has been repaved - in asphalt.

Re: News & Discussion: Laneway & Streetscape Projects
I believe this is due to be 'paver stencilled'... It's not the standard we should expect for the capital city zone, and I don't know why they couldn't've at least recycled the pavers that were there. But it's a minor laneway. Perhaps one day someone will upgrade Da Costa Arcade and it'll be worth renewing as a more important thoroughfare.ChillyPhilly wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2023 5:18 pmFrancis St, which connects Rundle Mall and Da Costa Arcade, has recently had some drainage issues resolved.

Is this the same treatment that Gilbert Place received recently? It looks a bit like paving or fake cobblestones?

I saw this for the first time today - it actually looks pretty good. It will be interesting to see how durable it is.Uncle Monty wrote: ↑Sat Oct 07, 2023 8:46 amIs this the same treatment that Gilbert Place received recently? It looks a bit like paving or fake cobblestones?

Works have begun on the Pitt St upgrade.
The ACC should also look at a countdown timer for the pedestrian crossing at the Pitt St and Grote St intersection. Countdown timers installed at other pedestrian-heavy crossings in the city work quite well.

Pitt Street will sadly still be open to traffic and will remain two directions, but will at least feature removable bollards and wider footpaths. This in itself is a massive improvement.

New “Motional” artwork on Bentham Street being installed, with “the interior spaces acting as mini galleries”.
