A $2 MILLION fund has been established to provide public art spaces for the Newport Quays development at Port Adelaide.
Up to 10 spaces will be established under the fund, which was a condition negotiated by the State Government as part of the development.
Infrastructure Minister Patrick Conlon said the installations would make use of abandoned items collected during development.
"They will enable artists to weave elements of the dock heritage into contemporary artworks, bringing memories of the Port's past into a project that is a critical part of the community's future," Mr Conlon said.
The art, to be commissioned by joint venture members Multiplex and Urban Construct, would draw on the area's history, Newport Quays spokesman Todd Brown said.
"Public art is a critical element in the development of Newport Quays, and will commemorate the vibrant heritage of Port Adelaide," he said.

Busses obviously stop much more frequently. Train and Tram services would be pretty similar. The industrial look ruins it. But that is what a port is about anyway. So I really don't know if the new developments around the port could change the image of Port Adelaide forever.

Fremantle looked far worse than Port Adelaide once now look at it. Secondly to mention the tram once again, correct me if i'm wrong but did n't it once go down Port Road many moons ago?

Parts of Port Road did have trams at some stage, but they were part of the Port Adelaide tram network, separate from the rest of Adelaide's former tram network.

Of course buses can travel on tracks. Go to Tea Tree Plaza and take a look for yourself (or take a ride on it for that matter). It's called the O-bahn busway. It's fast (buses can travel up to 100 km/hr on the tracks)
It's flexible (buses can come off the tracks and travel on any road)
It's accessible (whereas something like a monorail can be potentially difficult for elderly, disabled people to get on and off)
Capacity can easily be changed by adding or subtracting buses
It doesn't require a lot of expensive infrastructure like electrified railways or trams or monorails, all it needs is a concrete track and appropriate buses.
That seems right now to be the ONLY problem with it, it's difficult to get the right type of buses for some reason. I can't see why though, I would have though similar systems would be very popular all over the world (for all the above reasons).

Sorry to prolong the Port tram debnate, but the first requirement is passengers wanting to make the journey. What's the proposed route? Is it already serviced? Would trams do it better? If so, could the other service be removed?

Your proposing to make another obahn to goto port adelaide, say in the middle of port road?? Why cant we just overhang a few cables on the current corridor near port road, maybe lay multi gauge tracks, and run trams??? Wouldnt that be cheaper to implement, more greener, and more cost efficient in terms of running costs?
North Eastern suburbs only have 1 corridor which is the o-bahn, north west suburbs already have 1 corridor, so why make another one?
