This is interesting...from that AAL schedule above:
Singapore Airlines
SQ 277 SQ 276 30NOV19JAN
0234567 337781 SINSIN1640 1835 SINSIN
Instead of three weekly flights WED/FRI/SUN between 30NOV 2024 and 19JAN 2025 we will have 6 weekly evening flights to SIN via SQ276. Checking on the Singapore Airlines Flight Schedule this is not available and so is booking those extra days. Hope it is rectified soon as I want to book one of those days currently not showing to limit my layover time in Changi.
Cheers
I've also noticed that last year it was claimed by the airport that Singapore airlines were permanently increasing flights out of Adelaide to 10. So 3 evening flights throughout the year every week. It was said to be quote "made available beyond the holiday season".
Yet they have not been made available on Singapore's website beyond march next year, hoping its also rectified soon. Or perhaps singapore have made a backflip decision to stick with daily instead of 10, with the inevitable return of Cathay and China Southern. I highlight this only because Melbourne and Sydney are available to book a multitude of services past march, hence my concern.
Regardless, with Singapore increasing its services and complete domination over the Singapore-Adelaide market, it looks less and less likely that Qantas will attempt to re-enter the market in the medium term. Eventually they will though, its an incredibly profitable route for a city of our size.

A link popped up while google Cathay Pacific direct flight Adelaide.
https://flights.cathaypacific.com/desti ... o-adelaide
Flight route information
Cathay Pacific offers
daily direct flights to Adelaide International Airport (ADL) from Hong Kong International Airport (HKG). Flights from HKG to ADL take 8 hours 45 minutes and bring you to Terminal 1.

Officially the last SQ276 flight (to SIN) is Friday 28 March 2025. Beyond that nothing is confirmed. Just like the 6 weekly flights between 30 NOV and 19 JAN mentioned by AAL. I contacted SIA. They said keep checking our schedules for any updates as they can change for a variety of factors. So it is not confirmed or denied. However I lean towards those extra flights being confirmed. It will be a test run that will hopefully bring twice daily next year.
Cheers

Great news, the only direction we're missing now is America. Adelaide to Los Angeles would be useful to lots of travellers.

Perhaps "Adelaide to a North American hub"?
But Adelaide has a niche film industry and video game industry, both of which could be relevant to Los Angeles and nearby California. There is probably more travel done to/from Adelaide for the Defence sector, but I'm not sure if there's any other practical US hub that would fit better.

It certainly won't be to Los Angeles when we get our first American flight. It'll be to San Fransico.
United Airlines has always started off new service routes with a San Fransico flight, because its the business capital of California. And it being a business city, a service between Adelaide and San Fransico would work all year round. Los Angeles is more of a holiday city, and would only be viable during the holiday period (when first starting the service)
United Airlines is currently circling Adelaide, and once Adelaide Airport gets China southern and Cathay back, will be given the green light to prepare to start services within the next two-three years.
Adelaide Airport has specifically said they want Cathay back and China Southern back before pursuing new routes. Those carriers are likely to return this summer.
After that, the airports full attention and focus will be getting those America routes as soon as possible.

direct flights to Asia are much more practical than direct flights from Adelaide to the USA... there would be miniscule traffic on such flights to justify such a route
a lot of Asians live in Adelaide and travel back and forth for family reasons, this isn't the case with USA

There were 39,000+ travellers per annum that Adelaide airport identified were going to and from Los Angeles from Adelaide. Thats not even including the people who would be travelling to San Fransico/New York, etc. That is PLENTY to justify a direct service a couple of times a week.
When the service eventually comes online it'll be very popular

I'd prefer LA or San Fran, but San Diego is the naval hub and currently has no air connection with Australia. Could be a mutual fit.
A fair amount of defence travel could also be routed to Honolulu once (if??) the submarines are underway as a major missile testing range is in Hawaii and many subs are home-ported in Pearl Harbour.

If that 39,000 figure is correct, that'd be about 750 a week. Depending on the type of aircraft, one stop perhaps Fiji or Honolulu (some flights out of Melbourne stop in Fiji on the way to LA), could probably get one flight a week.
I doubt they'd go for much more to start off, if and when they manage to introduce flights to LA.
That should, hopefully, increase demand, and then they can talk about a couple flights a week.

I wrote down a basic calculation for United Airlines a couple of months ago but i'll paste it here again
If United were to do thrice weekly DIRECT that's 3 x 52 = 156 flights per annum, therefore 39,000 passengers ÷ 156 flights ≈ 250 passengers per flight (pretty much filling the 280-seat capacity of the 787-8), and the 787-8 can do NON-STOP, without needing to stop in melbourne or Fiji.
I've said before and I'll say it again, united are buying a lot of 787's and
plan to use them for australia
https://www.hotelmanagement.com.au/2023 ... s-in-2024/
Its profitable and achieveable. Hope to see the direct service by united happen soon.
