News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure
Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure
The South Australian Royal Commission into the Nuclear Fuel Cycle in 2016 put the price of electricity generated from small nuclear plants @ $238 per mwh, so I am calling that around $350 per mwh in 2024 prices. If small nuclear were generating in South Australia today that would make it the most expensive energy source. God knows what it would be in 2037!

Here are the last 12 months of wholesale spot prices in South Australia. Gas is the most expensive (forget distillate, its hardly used and is closing) and rooftop solar is the cheapest. Renewables plus storage provide lower prices compared to fossil fuel alternatives.

so you admit we're settling for being a backward nationrubberman wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 10:30 pmSo, if we can't build a car...I don't like the chances of being able to build a nuclear plant.abc wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 10:14 pmso little old Australia which can't even build a modern motor car knows something the rest of the developed world doesn't...Waewick wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 9:40 pm
Well isn't facebook missing out on another psudeo expert.
But there is no need for a rationle debate. Thats been had, many times over the last 50 years.
Everyone who should know if Nuclear stacks up in Australia tells us it doesn't.
That leaves us with people like you or Peter Dutton telling us all the experts are wrong.

So yes, Australia knows exactly what the rest of the world know, in fact we were way to slow on the uptake.

So given you think we should be doing what everyone else is, its great to have you onboard the renewables push.

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure
How on earth do you connect not being able to build a nuclear plant with being backward? What is the logical connection, if any?
It looks like you've just started with one fact, relevant to the debate, ie Australia doesn't have the capacity to build nuclear power stations, and then, somehow jumped to a conclusion that is totally unrelated.
At least make an effort to explain the logic when trying to connect what are totally unrelated subjects.
I wish, by no means, to suspend any pleasure of yours, but at the moment there's a series of assertions with almost no obvious logic. So, if all you are doing is putting an opinion out there, fine. However, without some sort of coherent argument, it's a bit like shouting at clouds.

so we import Chinese to build them for us..smart people with adequate technology... because we're a nation of basics

Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure
Just because we can't do everything, doesn't mean we are backward. If we don't need nuclear, or cannot deploy it in time, it is pointless developing the capacity.abc wrote: ↑Wed Jun 26, 2024 12:07 am"ie Australia doesn't have the capacity to build nuclear power stations"rubberman wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 11:35 pmHow on earth do you connect not being able to build a nuclear plant with being backward? You seemed to be suggesting not going nuclear was knowing something the world doesn't know.abc wrote:so you're answering the question nobody asked with this childish 'fact check' article of a claim nobody madeWaewick wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 10:18 pmThe rest of the world is investing more and more in renewables and less and less in nuclearabc wrote:

Perhaps instead of sulking that your argument is fantasy, acknowledge you got it wrong an move on.

Its certainly backwards to be arguing for last centuries technologies to be rolled out in place of modern ones.abc wrote:"in time" for what?

Especially when *checks notes* the rest of the world is also investing in them.

What's your qualifications and expertise to make that call?PeFe wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 10:35 pmThe South Australian Royal Commission into the Nuclear Fuel Cycle in 2016 put the price of electricity generated from small nuclear plants @ $238 per mwh, so I am calling that around $350 per mwh in 2024 prices. Yeh, just imagine what the cost will be in 2037 if we continue on the path we're on today. Imagine how many more households wont be able to afford electricity in their homes.
Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure
I said it earlier but power prices on July 1st are going down
Not just not inflation increase but actually down.

Just don't expect a nuclear power plant any time soon.
Re: News & Discussion: Electricity Infrastructure
It was just on the news that the coalitions energy plan will feature renewables, or that they will play a role along with nuclear.
Unfortunately they didn't spend much time on it and most of the time on it was spent focusing on the arguing between parties.
