One must have been a Bilo or Franklin's.

Yeah, it used to be a Bi-Lo until that brand was retired, and for some reason they have continued to keep it open. Probably trying to stop Aldi or Woolies from coming into the centre.

What's the driver for lots of new McDonalds outlets? There seem to be many other brands now, I'd have thought the "traditonal" McDonalds and Hungry Jacks would be waning, but there seem to be a number of new ones.

I'm guessing the explosion of food delivery services like Uber Eats, Menulog etc would have made a big impact.

McDonald's also haven't been shy about their aggressive growth strategy in Australia - https://franchiseexecutives.com.au/mcdo ... 20offering.

I think my local chicken/fish and chip shop is significantly cheaper for a meal than McDonalds. It has a new McDonalds opened earlier this year just down the road, and two others within about 4 km. Takeaway pizzas from the local pizza shop are a similar price to Maccas for a meal.

Aldi are already in the centre (taking the former bowling alley space that was actually the original Bi-Lo space back in the day).

Having 2 Coles' there is purely to keep Woolies out.

Instead of building an unnecessary McDonald's at Ingle Farm, they should build a third Coles.

If all these new McDonalds outlets are unnecessary, there will be a round of closures soon - either the new ones, or the older ones they replaced. I went through a new drive-through McDonads recently (it's the closest fast food to home). It reminded me why I don't do it very often.
