Pretty sad to see - my kids have had some great times there and the building itself was pretty unique in my opinion.
I was thinking the same thing.
That second photo is pretty sad to see. My boys drew some of those pics on the window on the last day and they both learnt to swim in that pool.
Stop reminiscing, bring on the replacement!

Also will always have fond memories of the aquatic center from taking my son there.
Here's hoping the new one has some good atmosphere and it isn't the case of going from Magic Mountain to Beach House as I'm a little worried of.

I understand the heating and cooling issues but in my opinion I would have loved it if they had completely refurbished the pool area and the outside gardens and then rebuilt the front section of the centre with a new reception and changing areas.
The indoor/outdoor nature of the centre when all of the external tilting doors were open was pretty innovative and I feel this is just another case of an ultimately impressive and well thought-out building being allowed to become run down and then replaced with something far less functional as a result.
Time will tell I guess.

Time will definitely tell. I still think its precise location is a mistake, and it should have been located closer to O'Connell Street. But hey, making planning decisions around crappy carparks is Adelaide in a nutshell.
I believe the overall design and concept will be quite good and it will prove popular.

If we're going to go all hypotheticals, a great place would have been on the riverbank to the west of the convention centre. Close to ARS so opens it up to more people.
Plus being on the riverbank, they could have built a man-made beach similar to Southbank in Brisbane. And instead of just being a couple of swimming pools, it could have been developed into a water theme park.
On the car park it self, doesn't make sense to keep it as is. The current car park runs parallel to the current building. If they keep it as is, it'll be a bit of a walk to the new building. Might be a bit of a safety issue at some stage?
Personally I think all new major developments that need a car park should be putting them under ground.

For starters, my avatar is the well-known Adelaide Aquatic Centre insignia from 1989.

Nice photos.
What's happening with the solar panels? Landfill, recycled, reused?
Would be good if they reused them at public schools or community sporting clubs.

What a huge waste! They were only installed in 2019.

This isn’t the reality of clean energy this is the result of people miss managing this project as happens in Adelaide all the time.
Has there been confirmation these boards are thrown away?
And could they have been repurposed?
This isn’t the fault of Green or clean energy. How fucking stupid
