This is a real shame. Back in the day pre covid this was probably my favourite little pub.
Can't say the place was ever heaving with people, but it had a bit of character about it. The owner at the time had tried the "S.A only" business model, with regards to beers, food and wine.
The half-arsed refurb afterwards took away any form of charm the place once had. And now, it would be unlikely it will ever pour a beer again. Hope im proven wrong.
In nice weather was always a good vibe on the footpath and was a great bottle shop you could sit in for a drink as well. Real shame.
Wouldn't be surprised if the next step is "arson" that "unfortunately" means they have to demolish more the building and oh so conveniently have a more valuable development site.

Fencing, the minimal scaffolding that was there, and signage of the new development have all been removed. Now just an empty block.

there's a half demolished stone wall there which is a safety hazard as it could easily fall over

Well, this one is being helped in that direction by the fact that it’s basically open to the elements at the back where they demolished the outbuildings.
It’s already got plants growing out of the gutters too.

Why are you guys expecting it to be set on fire?
The original proposal was to keep the original building and build a tower behind it.

It would be cheaper to build something without a pesky heritage structure to contend with.

Rev, do you seriously not see the pattern with pub sites being bought out for development where it falls into limbo and a fire "mysteriously" breaks out rendering the heritage structure beyond repair and a new proposal lodged in place.
This has happened only like 10 times now. It's clear as day, but somehow still allowed and marked down to arson / an accident when it's really nothing more than an insurance job to prop up the new proposal (which was the original plan all along).
Our corrupt politicians and cops are all too happy to play along - nothing to see here. It's blatantly criminal. But, hey, we live in Australia - society just looks the other way as well and says she'll be right mate.
It's fucked.

there was a fire in Wright St Hotel, but they didn't knock that down. It still stands there derelict.

Not saying it hasn't happened or there isn't a pattern of it happening.
But from what you describe seems like a pretty big conspiracy with a broad range of people
