[PRO] Buckingham Arms | 10lvs | $150m

The materials are better, but the form / massing is worse.
This really needs to go back to the drawing board again at 6 or 7 levels maximum and broken up into segments to break up the mass.

All i can see is that crap Hungry Jacks car park. They might as well just put a HJ's sign on it and call it a day.

Police investigate circumstances around blaze at historic Buckingham Arms Hotel in Adelaide's inner-north
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-11-16/ ... /104609862
Police are investigating the circumstances around a construction fire which broke out at a historic hotel site in Adelaide's inner north.
The Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) and South Australian police were called to The Buckingham Arms Hotel in Gilberton after 11am on Saturday following reports of a fire.
Walkerville Terrace and Northcote Terrace are closed to all traffic as firefighters work to extinguish the fire.
A significant amount of toxic smoke was billowing from the building and blowing in a south-easterly direction.
The MFS issued a warning advising nearby residents to remain indoors with their windows and doors closed.
The hotel – which was first opened in about 1846 – is currently under renovation with plans to build a 10-storey apartment building submitted to the State Commission Assessment Panel (SCAP) last month.
The Adelaide establishment was well-known for its smorgasbord before its closure in 2022.
SA Police ask anyone who noticed any suspicious activity or has any information about the fire to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A scaled down three-storey townhouse development behind the local heritage listed Buckingham Arms Hotel in Gilberton has been granted planning approval – but a 10-storey apartment project is still on the cards.

That's disappointing but one i probably understand.
Mind you, additional cars on that intersection isn't going to end well, especially slowing down to turn in/out

Fucking Walkerville. Seriously, anywhere else in inner-city Adelaide would have to wear it if a med-density development was put forward and approved, but of course, the smallest, most exclusive suburb/council in Adelaide manages to persuade a scaled down proposal within its boundaries. Old money wins again.

Went past this site today 14/12 to check out the damage from the "accidental fire", and it's far more extensive than the news reports conveyed. Many of the windows are smashed and the site could be accessed very easily from any angle.
If the developers are serious about saving the heritage components of this site they should probably put something more substantial in place than the flimsy and comically-named "make safe" fence, lest a second "accidental fire" break out.
