yeah but in Adelaide ... really?

I'm pretty sure the Intercontinental formerly the Hyatt about 20 years ago had penthouse/presidential suites in the $1000-2000 a night range.
High $200's into the $300 range per night is pretty standard for a decent hotel room. This being a 'luxury' offering, $400 a night isn't too bad.

About what you'd expect for a brand new luxury hotel room in most cities in the developed world.

So what happens to the old GPO now and the broken clock?

The site offices and lunchrooms/bathrooms for the construction site were inside the GPO building. With the hotel now open I'd expect that these are now all being removed and that restoration of the GPO building would be beginning soon.baytram366 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 4:58 pmSo what happens to the old GPO now and the broken clock?

Very glad this is happening. Hopefully they can pigeon-proof the building's facade during its restoration.SouthAussie94 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 10:09 amThe site offices and lunchrooms/bathrooms for the construction site were inside the GPO building. Now that these construction works are completed and the ground level is all opened up the plaza behind this and Electa House has turned out fantastically, the bar there feels so different being open on all sides and has a really nice vibe.

have they renovated and populated the entire old GPO ground level? when I went past last week it still looked dead from Franklin Street side.

They've only renovated the 1920s addition of the old GPO building. The original/original facade and interior remains untouched and empty.

Does anyone know what is happening with the original part of the GPO? I hope it doesn't sit empty but also gets a sensible renovation / refurbishment and not everything painted white.

I would pay good money for the ability to climb inside the clock tower and see the view from it, as a tourist attraction. But we don't have the demand for that.
I really want to see the whole heritage GPO building tastefully illuminated at night.

The city I live in does this for its clock towers but as one offs. It's called literally "the night of open churches". There's not demand for it to be open every day but the event is popular with locals.Ursus Maritimus wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2024 10:04 amI would pay good money for the ability to climb inside the clock tower and see the view from it, as a tourist attraction. I've noticed in the last couple of weeks that the clock is running again on the correct time.
