[U/C] 88 O'Connell Street | 63m | 13, 13 and 15 Levels | Mixed Use

It’s a shame they went with boring ultra-modern instead of the “modernised heritage” look that some new build residential homes are going for around North Adelaide.
Architects around the world need to trend away from the “grey box with glass” look in general. Just look at how fantastic the SkyCity expansion, 60 King William, or Market Square look when you go for something different.

I wouldn’t even call it ultra modern. It’s just ultra cheap. It already looks dated.

It actually looks quite good in person.

It looks like it should be something that is tucked within the confines of Waymouth st. Except, it's not and it's visible from everywhere. A solid D+ grade development.

I think it looks great and will help to revitalise the O’Connell St precinct.

Yeah it looks pretty decent. Not quite the same as its glossy renders which is where most people's gripes come from, but it's far from ultra cheap and dated.

I think this one looks much better in person.

Agree, looks quite good from when I've gone past. Not disappointed at all.

I've driven past it. Does that count? It looks shit.

I went past this site yesterday and it is coming together well. The finishes are good and the design pretty sleek.
The Le Cornue vacant block lay formant for a generation and attempts to build something were stopped at every turn by a vocal minority. In the meantime, O'Connell St (like Melbourne Street) lost its vibrancy and mojo, while other suburban thoroughfares maintained theirs (like the Parade and Unley Road). Now at last there is a significant drawcard and centre of gravity for North Adelaide that - hopefully - will attract visitors from around Adelaide and elsewhere.
It is hard to understand the negativity around this development - let's see what happens when it opens, But with high-end restaurants, shops and facilities, it seems to me the development provides a v good balance of accommodation, entertainment and retail. Save the verdict until the place opens later in 2025 and into 2026.

abc is correct on this one. There were many proposals which received approvals over the years but the developers either sat on it, demolished previously occupied buildings then sat on it or just sold it to realise the capital gain that comes from having a site with a higher height limit than prior to the development application.
Le Cornu only occupied about a third of this site.
