If Renewal SA is actually about renewal, it should purchase and consolidate surronding sites into a developable parcel. It's an unacceptable blight.

The thing about this site that sits on the corner of two of the most busy, loudest roads in the city centre, is it's somehow the perfect blend of a place you wouldn't want to live, wouldn't want to work, and wouldn't stay for a holiday. There's a reason why businesses like Heaven nightclub, McDonald's and a 24 hour pharmacy thrived there. It's well and truly the arse of the CBD.

There was a Govt request for tender for a new Pathology building. One of the key criteria was proximity to RAH. I suspect that they purchased this site because it would have put them in the box seat to win that tender. With Pathology as a key long term tenant it would have then been easy to fill out the remainder of the site with complementary services.
Unfortunately the project was cancelled after tenders were submitted.

We have a hospital system in crisis. Not enough beds, ramping ambulances, etc.
There's a good chunk of the RAH that is office space.
Since private development of this site keeps getting nowhere, why doesn't the government buy it, build some office space for RAH there, and convert a good portion of the office space at RAH to wards and bed space?
I'm sure both sites could be linked with a pedestrian overpass or underpass for hospital staff.
They could even include some parking for said staff, perhaps underground, and that would free up perhaps 100 or more car parks for the public using the RAH.
