The new Internode information centre makes quite a good impact on the street level, would be good if a cafe opened up aswell.

Used to work there when it was CGU, nice building.
Love the glass, it's a pity they can't use that style in a lot of the newer buildings going up.

It would have made a vast improvement to ANZ.

Anyone got any information or renders on the Regent Arcade redevelopment?

Quite a bit of activity on the site today, I could just see the interior of the old disused cinema and it looks like they are going to give the arcade a major revamp.

looks like Prada will be part of the redevelopment.

ADELAIDE'S hospitality scene is sizzling after a boom year of hot new restaurants and bars opening their doors.

Sally Neville, Restaurant and Catering SA chief executive, says we've seen more restaurant, café and bar openings than ever before.

"They've been experienced operators, too, who have a much better chance of survival as opposed to previous years when a lot inexperienced people have opened up but closed quite quickly, " she says.

The 2007 LIght Year Award winners are:

New kids on the block: Favourites are Cut, in King William St, Mesa Lunga and Concubine, in Gouger St, Farina, in Hindmarsh Square, Mantra, at Goodwood, Line Bait, at North Adelaide, and Vileroy, at Norwood.

Bar bar boom: Fun, fashionable bars seemed to spring up everywhere. Dragonfly, Victoria Square, Bar Cuba at the Union Hotel, in Waymouth St, Escobar, Buddha Bar and now Sangria, in Gouger St, joined established bar players such as Distill, Lotus Lounge, La Boheme and The Crown & Sceptre. The Promethean, in Grote St, is the best live music venue.

High achievers: The Greenrod brothers (Martin, Jake and Michael) with their mega-successful Good Life restaurants, which won a national gong for the best pizza in the nation at the Restaurant and Catering Awards. Also, Matt and Olivia Trim, who continue their empire building with two new venues in the pipeline in addition to the Queens Head, The Manse and Farina. It's a shame to see their savvy, likeable business partner Luke James heading interstate.

Lionheart award: The Lion, at North Adelaide, turned 10 this year and it still has a mighty roar, winning the national AHA Best Hotel Award this year. Well done, Tim and Andrew.

Extreme makeover: a three-way tie between The Maid & Magpie Hotel, Stepney; blue collar watering hole turned designer pub, Brompton Hotel; and the Duke of Brunswick, in Gilbert St, now The Brunswick

Social conscience award: Stuart Gifford at the new Sarah's Cafe, in Leigh St, for his ever-green thinking, vego food to feed the soul and tango nights.

CBD lunch picks: Ben Johnson's Parisian inspiration at Bistro Dom, in Waymouth St, and the always-thoughtful menus at The Art Gallery Restaurant.

Waiting game award: A random selection of front of house staff who impressed in 2007. Orlando and Tammy, at Assaggio; Grantley, at Cut; Amanda, at the European; Kat at Fedora's (Hilton Hotel), Noriko and William, at Kenji; Rowena, at Regatta's; Sheldon Lim, at Georges and the two Pauls at Europa at the Bay.

Budget eats: Pira Thai, on Unley Rd, and Wasai Japanese Kitchen, in Field St, with cheap and fabulous food.
Breakkie heartstarters: a tie between the happy, relaxed Brown Dog Café, on Goodwood Rd, and the ever-reliable Chianti Classico, in Hutt St.

Silver lining award: Barbara Derham's The Blanc, in Hutt St, sadly closed its doors but meanwhile the Thanakamonnun boys are going great guns at their Blanc Bistro in Currie St, with another possible venue to come soon.

The out of towners: McLaren Vale shines as our best food destination. Four regional beauties, which wowed in 2007 are d'Arrys, Fino, Penny's Hill and The Salopian Inn.

'Burbs beauties: top Thai at the small but beautiful Sabai Thai, at Glenelg; grand Greek fare, at Café Astros, Hawthorn, and first-rate food at The Stirling Hotel, Stirling.

Can anyone please explain what the situation is with the fountains in the Squares. Is it because of the drought
that they are not filled and operational or something else ? Looks tacky for locals and visitors to our city alike
that they are used only as rubbish bins

It's the same nation wide.

All fountains are turned off on Mondays for "Mondays for the Murray" initiative.

The ceiling has been cut away at the Mall end, allowing daylight & air in through the first floor windows.

Not sure where to put this as it fairly minor but has anyone noticed that the Grenfell Centre (black stump) has finally had a decent black paint job done on its plant room? A few of us on here (including myself ) have been having a whinge about it for years now. Finally it has been done, no more fading around the old former JLW sign anymore. It makes the building look much much better. Together with the upgrade it has a real polished look to it now and improves our skyline considering its height.

I rode through the city on my motorbike tonight and had a good look around at all the developments going up. Riding through the new Bakewell underpass into the city, seeing 3 cranes clearly it looks awesome.
One shop that really caught my eye was the new Hugo Boss shop on Grenfell. This shop is lit up and get's your attention. This is what we need more of in Adelaide, modern well lit up shop fronts. We should all encourage this sort of business and make sure they stick around in the city, so i'll be off these to by myself some stuff soon.
