Re: APPROVED: $60m State Swimming Centre
Is there still no design for this? This would have to be one of the slowest projects ever in Adelaide.

Re: APPROVED: $60m State Swimming Centre
Why couldn't they have just bulldozed the old one and replaced it?
Sorry if this has been answered already, but I couldnt be bothered reading it all.
Marion isn't close to the city, where as the location of the aquatic centre is perfect, just its a peice of trash.
Replacing it makes sense to me

I don't think they are going to close the North Adelaide aquatic centre when the Marion centre opens, as far as I know we'll have both.
But is the North Adelaide aquatic centre really a peice of trash? I agree it could use a wave machine, and a few decent flume rides, and maybe a further cosmetic upgrade, but basically I think it's quite good, even by international standards, especially after the recent major upgrade of the flooring and changing rooms.
Granted it doesn't quite meet olympic / international sporting standards (which is why the Marion one was proposed in the first place) but as a leisure centre for the general public it's really quite good!
Let's not run Adelaide down where it actually doesn't deserve it!

i think the same thing to, everyone on here cries about where Football park is but no one has a problem with buiding a new state swimming centre in Marion.JamesXander wrote:Why couldn't they have just bulldozed the old one and replaced it?

Marion Swimming Centre also is close to the new Oaklands station. The Swimming Centre, the new station and the upgrade of the Shopping Centre plus extra car parks will make this area even hotter.

Is there something wrong with west lakes then?Norman wrote:Marion Swimming Centre also is close to the new Oaklands station. The Swimming Centre, the new station and the upgrade of the Shopping Centre plus extra car parks will make this area even hotter.
(besides the lack of a rail line)

Sorry Cruise, I was talking in general, not specifically replying to your post.

One quick read of that ridiculous nonsense ("Quarterly Project Summary" linked to above) and I am quickly reminded why this project, like so many others in Adelaide, is taking such an incredibly long time to happen!
Two words: COUNCIL INCOMPETENCE!!!
When will they stop festering in their own filth and just get on with the job?

I live in the Hills, I do not want to drive 1.5 hours to watch a football game for 1.5 hours then turn around and drive for another 1.5 hours.
Its painful & its one of the worst stadiums on earth.

My point is a swimming centre at Marion will end up just as big a mistake as Football park is
