World's largest pool makes a big splash
Wednesday Jan 30 10:00 AEDT
A new swimming pool stretching over a kilometre in length has been officially recognised as the world's largest.
The man-made lagoon in Chile would take Olympic champion Grant Hackett around ten minutes to swim a lap.
Recently completed at a cost of over $1.7 billion, the pool covers an area of eight hectares and takes 2.5 billion litres of water to fill
However, water restrictions need not apply — the pool's water is drawn directly from the neighbouring Pacific Ocean.
But weak swimmers are advised to stay out of the deep end of the San Alfonso del Mar resort pool, which at 35m is almost as deep as Sydney Harbour.
Most guests would struggle to swim the distance, so the resort offers kayaks and sailing boats to cruise the pool.
The water is kept at a comfortable 26 degrees in summer — nine degrees warmer than the ocean — and the hotel claims the pool is self-cleaning.
The company responsible has already been booked to build six more 'super pools' in countries including Argentina, Panama and Dubai.
now, who wants one in thier backyard??

Re: worlds largest pool
I like the idea, but i have to say those apartments look ugly and out of place with their surroundings. The pool idea i like.
Re: worlds largest pool
If Tsunami hits, the world's largest pool couldn't get any bigger.
Anyway, it's interesting to see a resort of this scale with that sort of pool size, is in front of a beautiful beach.

Im stunned. That is just pure... heaven. LOL. I'd swim that.
Adelaide should have a super pool. Nowhere in Australia has one yet.
I think the beachfront of the Minda Home at Brighton would be a good spot to put it!
