Gawler Place is the one that crosses Rundle Mall and runs parallel to King William, it's a fair way east.
[CAN] Re: #Approved: 20-22 Currie St - 123m, 31 lvls
Well, whatever. You know the street I'm talking about. Starts with a G.
[CAN] Re: #Approved: 20-22 Currie St - 123m, 31 lvls
while we're at it, Gawler Place north of Grenfell Street should be closed to traffic.
[CAN] Re: #Approved: 20-22 Currie St - 123m, 31 lvls
No, it should be a shared zone and be completely redeveloped (similar to Leigh Street).
[CAN] Re: #Approved: 20-22 Currie St - 123m, 31 lvls
And what's the reasoning behind that?crawf wrote:No, it should be a shared zone and be completely redeveloped (similar to Leigh Street).
Adelaide drivers have enough trouble sharing the road with each other, let alone bicyclists, couldn't imagine the catastrophe that would arise from more "shared" roads.
[CAN] Re: #Approved: 20-22 Currie St - 123m, 31 lvls
Well vehicles still need access to Rundle Mall (like for out expos and functions) and businesses along the street, its worked very well on Leigh Street and other streets around Adelaide.
But as I said Gawler Place needs to be completely redeveloped and made pedestrian friendly.
I know what you mean about Adelaide drivers though

Peel St runs from Hindley St to Currie Street, and along the eastern side, which is where the new building will be, has, in my opinion, just one building that I would hate to see bulldozed - the old 3-story warehouse that dates from the 1800s and is still in good condition. The rest of it looks fairly shite. Gilbert Place also runs between Hindley and Curry Streets, with a link to KWS too, and is one of our "Character Laneways".Shuz wrote:The buildings in the Gawler and Peel St laneways are too insignificant to be worthy of preservation. Anyways, I would believe that most pedestrian traffic in Gawler Place comes from KWS into Hindley, not Currie-Hindley. As for Peel Street, is it a dead end or a direct throughfare to Gawler Place? Either way the building should be built as it is, without amendments to its streetfront design, which I believe is a voluntary action to undertake than a compulsory one is it not?
The disappointing thing about bulldozing these old buildings is the reason - to make way for entrances to underground carparking. This means that not only do we lose some beautiful historical buildings, but we also lose two pedestrian-friendly laneways, which Adelaide needs more of, not less.
Build the building - it will look fantastic and be a great icon for Adelaide. But does it need underground carparking?

Ridiculous comment. Thankfully the people on the City council have far more intelligence and good taste than you.frank1 wrote:I think they should just built it and loose the lane way, so be it. Adelaide has plenty of character and other nice lane ways. If we keep saying this about every lane way, no new developments will ever get built.
Gilbert Street is one of the absoute gems of Adelaide. Name all these laneways that are comparable to Gilbert. If anything Adelaide has far too few of these types of streets. There is no reason this building can't get built while maintaining (or enhancing if done right) the charm and character of two of Adelaide's great little streets.

Actually, it's Gilbert Place - Gilbert Street is a different (and much bigger) street in another part of the city.Tyler_Durden wrote:Gilbert Street is one of the absoute gems of Adelaide. Sorry, my mistake. Even though I said Gilbert Street I was most definately referring to Gilbert Place.

What's intelligence got to do with personal taste? I don't call you stupid for your opinion about it being a gem. All i can say is the council is too touchy and conservative.Tyler_Durden wrote:Ridiculous comment. I thought that this building only had above ground parking. From what I can see on the plans, the entrance on Gilbert Place would have a foyer entry and have cafes spilling out onto the street.

Fast_forward, you're correct. The entrance to the above-ground car park is on Peel Street, and there is no basement as far as I can tell.
The lifts are interesting (right out of Sim Tower!). There will be one service lift for all floors. There will also be regular 12 lifts, all stopping on Ground, and 1 though 4. Four lifts only will stop from 5 though to 11, four only from 12 though 20, and the last four from 13 though 30. Only one public lift will service the restaurant on the 31st floor.

By the way, here's some nice renders no one seems to have noticed, buried all the way at the back of the DAP.

I'm pretty sure thats the renders of the old design. The new design as I'm aware of has a clean unbroken northern facade, with no setbacks.
