Re: Article: 10,000 new homes vision
Zender you seem to forget that Harbo is after a Thomas Playford style Housing Trust. This is very different to today's Housing Trust. Playford's Housing Trust created Affordable Housing for Sale. This means owner-occupier - not rented accommodation for drug traffickers. There are whole suburbs of Playford's housing trust homes, such as Henley Beach, Fulham and Henley South, which are owner-occupied houses and certainly not ghettos. The main difference is that this new affordable housing will be apartment-style housing and not individual houses, but they will still be for sale, not cheap rental for underpriviledged folk.

Re: Article: 10,000 new homes vision
It will be interesting to see how they management the sales process so only the "key workers" can purchase these partments. Will it be means tested? and presumably you have to live in the apartment (thus avoiding the situation of cashed up investors buying for capital gains purposes). However, I bet there will be plenty of loopholes...

Re: Article: 10,000 new homes vision
I worry about high density public housing in the city. I can imagine the crime rate would explode.
Re: Article: 10,000 new homes vision
Once again - this is not public housing. This is owner-occupied affordable housing.

Spot on Rhino! the article at the top of this thread says "HOUSING FOR KEY WORKERS". Nowhere does it mention catering for the more problem causing demographics...rhino wrote:Once again - this is not public housing. This is owner-occupied affordable housing.

Re: Article: 10,000 new homes vision
The article, or perhaps Harbo, seem a bit confused about what is being proposed. The general idea of the government facilitating city housing is a good one, and one which several of the folks here on S-A have been suggesting for a while. However, I want clearer information about the specifics of what is being pursued here.

The crime rate is already high in the cbdduke wrote:I worry about high density public housing in the city. I can imagine the crime rate would explode.
Re: Article: 10,000 new homes vision
It is really sad that many people still think that all low-income people are rapists, murderers, drug-traffickers and prostitutes. :wank:

Sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken
Re: Article: 10,000 new homes vision
you obviously have no idea or have had no encounters with the housing trust areas in the cbd so dont bother talking to me :wank: the people living in such dwellings are barely low-income earners, they are no-income earners. and yes, most of them 'are' drug dealers. sorry to burst your pretty bubble on what a perfect world you might think this is. I do NOT generalize at all when i refer to low-income earners being bad people. i am referring to the community that currently inhabits the cbd south and west. moving more of these people into high density would definately create a ghetto. Will wrote:It is really sad that many people still think that all low-income people are rapists, murderers, drug-traffickers and prostitutes. :wank:
HOWEVER, i misunderstood the article and realised these are more average priced dwellings, my bad. high rise apartments would be a great idea, i just assumed that harbo would be thinking of a townhouse idea, as townhouses are currently sprawling in the cbd, and not to mention adelaide's gay height restrictions n all, i can only imagine of more boxy mid rise. just hope for the best really

obviously you don't either.
But besides that more drug dealers in the cbd may be a good thing, More competition may result in cheaper ecstasy for all the Saturday night ravers.
Re: Article: 10,000 new homes vision
I live in one of the lower class areas of Adelaide, Parafield Gardens which for those who don't know is part of the Salisbury Council area. Not only that but I spend a lot of time around Elizabeth and Smithfield. A large proportion of people out this way are decent people, just a little rough around the edges sometimes. Sadly, there is a small minority who do drugs around here (infact, a house around the corner at the end of my street had a drug lab dismantled a few months ago. We knew that the house hadn't been occupied for around 18 months but never knew that drugs where being produced there.
However, as I have said, a lower class of people doesn't neccesarily mean that the crime rate will explode. Most people are decent around here, just a small minority who spoils it for us (in addition, when I go on a bus or train through one of the wealthier parts of Adelaide, I do feel out of place because of my somewhat tatty appearance at times but that is another issue altogether).

Re: #Article : Adelaide CBD highest net absorption ever
Article in today's afr stating that Adelaide Bank are looking for between 13,000 - 17,000 sq metres, ATO between 13,000 - 30,000 sq metres and Origin 12,000 - 17,000 sq metres with only about 5,000 sq metres available in the prime office market.
Check afr.com.au property section for the article. Can't copy and paste it but it can be printed. I don't have time to scan it etc now though.
