Now with suitable signage! (many thanks to the artistic skills of our office work experience student!)

With a building like that wouldn't Big W be a more appropriate anchor tenant

Consdering the look of the entrances/windows at street level, I think a better tenant would be Profix!

The City Messenger newspaper is asking for comment on this grossly underwhelming proposal. I have already posted my view at http://www.citymessenger.com.au. Perhaps we need more of our concerned citizens of Adelaide to be heard through in a publication that is read by City residents and workers.

OMFG, i really hope that boring second proposal doesn't get built. The first proposal was place with a bit of a European feel, that would suit North Adelaide well. This second proposal is just a cheap McShopping-Block that belongs somewhere like America, not North Adelaide.

Over 300 replies on this topic - but how many of us have acted to help end this saga? Well you can help by sending a letter that will assist the govt with its "major development project" approval process.

It's all about receiving balanced feedback. I bet they've received heaps of negative letters and very few letters of support. Such is life - we shout loud about things that annoy us but rarely support that with which we agree! I know posting a letter is so "old world" but that's how the process works! please send one soon!!

HERE'S HOW TO SEND A LETTER OF SUPPORT:
Here's a template you could use ==>
Example_Le-Cornu_Letter.doc
(99.68 KiB) Downloaded 135 times
1) DECIDE WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR LETTER
Submissions may provide general support, information, options, comments or suggestions, or identify errors or omissions. Providing sources of alternative information is helpful. It is good to refer directly to the Assessment document, including which section each point is addressing.

2) IT MIGHT HELP TO VIEW THE MAKRIS PROPOSAL
Access the docs here ==> http://www.planning.sa.gov.au/go/develo ... h-adelaide

3) PRINT YOUR LETTER ON A4 PAPER & POST IT - NO EMAIL SUBMISSIONS
All submissions should be clearly marked ‘Submission on the Former Le Cornu site at North Adelaide’, and be forwarded by close of business on Mar 5 to:
  • The Minister for Urban Development and Planning
ATT: Manager, Assessment Branch, Planning SA
    GPO Box 1815
    Adelaide SA 5001
(You will receive back a letter of acknowledgement)
4) WHO WILL READ MY LETTER?
All submissions are referred to the proponent for formal response in a Response document.
All submissions are also considered by the Minister when assessing the proposal.
All submissions received within the public comment period will be considered and form part of the assessment
process for the proposal.

This is the single best thing you could do to help push things along quickly!!!
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

^^^^Well done Wayno and an excellent idea at that. What would be good to do, if Howie would be ok with, attach to it a Sensational Adelaide logo, so we can maybe have more of a voice and a movement from this site outwards to the public and politicians to be heard.
Just an idea that could project us out there more.

I'm not sure if a s-a logo attached to it would be appropriate.. we've got some acc members who are on this website. There's a minority of people in the acc who are against this development, but the people who i've spoken to are all for a redevelopment on le cornu's.

Even still, kudos for the effort in producing the letter.. it's great to see people getting involved.

yeah, there was an article in the Independent Weekly yesterday. Some woman was holding a banner that said something like "It's not a done deal yet!". Please everyone submit a letter to the govt (see my previous posting). This will definitely help push things along and will only take a few minutes of your time...

Hmm, it's 88 O'Connell St so you'd have to do it between saturday 6-9am or 6-9pm to be within water usage guidelines!

Not necessarily Wayno. My profession allows me to use the type of hose you are referring to. Maybe we could
classify this as a "public relations " exercise.

From the Messenger:
Sandy's rocky reception

Louise Russell

19Feb08
Some citymessenger.com.au readers were less than impressed with Adelaide city councillor Sandy Wilkinson's own design for the old Le Cornu site this week.

Some citymessenger.com.au readers were less than impressed with Adelaide city councillor Sandy Wilkinson's own design for the old Le Cornu site this week.

AN ALTERNATIVE proposal put forward by City councillor Sandy Wilkinson for North Adelaide's controversial Le Cornu site has sparked several comments on the City Messenger website, http://www.citymessenger.com.au.

Most of the online comments were against Cr Wilkinson's proposal, which keeps a two-storey streetscape to O'Connell St going up to six storeys in the centre.

Site owner and developer, the Makris Group, has applied for the whole site to be six storeys, which is being assessed as a major project by the State Government.

Both proposals have a similar floor space of about 25,000sqm.

Cr Wilkinson, an architect, said most of the comments misunderstood his drawing was suggesting an alternative scale for the proposal and not an actual final design.

``It's not surprising you get comments talking about the architecture not looking as pretty as the proposal which has all been beautifully worked up compare to what's a building envelope model,'' Cr Wilkinson told the City Messenger.

Joel Pesaturo, of Adelaide, writes that he supports the ``character'' and ``charm'' of the Makris proposal: ``Eeeeewww (Cr Wilkinson's plan is) revolting! How exactly is it respectful to the `village' and `heritage' style of North Adelalaide (sic) by building an ugly concrete box!?''

Wayne, of Adelaide: ``How dreadful - Cr Wilkinson needs to put his crayons back in his toybox!''
Anon , of Adelaide, describes the proposal as ``pointless'': ``Cr Wilkinson's bizarrely conservative `nothing' design lacks a key ingredient - his money being on the line!''

Sarah, of North Adelaide, is opposed to the Makris' plan, which she labels ``Disneyland style''.

Cr Sue Clearihan says she prefers the lower heights on Cr Wilkinson's plans.

``It looks like a building block as presented ... it doesn't have the embellishment of the actual proposal submitted.''

Makris CEO John Blunt would not comment on Cr Wilkinson's designs but said the online comments were ``interesting''.See the Makris' proposal at http://www.planning.sa.gov.au.

I bet the North Adelaide people would hate every design put forward and wish the site remain empty so they can get their million dollar view of the city

I bet that the people of North Adelaide don't want the city skyline to change as their view of the hills and horizon/beach would be blocked
