They can pass at the stations, same as a non-guided busway. It's unsafe to pass on a regular busway.

and not allowing emergency vehicles are 3 things that come to mind

They provided regular and well documented access gates along the route for that.

But the concept of a busway in general was waaay ahead of its time for Australia, and many, many years on we are still reaping its benefits

Actually, it's a little more complicated than that. They also need to be powerful enough to make any hills at speed (such as the climb at Hope Valley Reservoir) and need to be a right length to combat skidding or whatever problems they had again.

It's always been a problem with the Merc Artics where the trailer's tyre would scrape along the track at specific corners at specific speeds.

LOL I remember before they introduced the slower speeds on the inner section that the artics' rear wheels used to squeal worringly on the corners when certain drivers used to gun it a little much.

What ever happened to the recommended rear guide wheels on artics?

If I may point out a few areas which could of been better managed.

What fool anticipates a growth in patronage but does not increase capacity. The trams can not be coupled and each carrys less then the existing trams. Frequencys can not be increased because they did not build grade seperations. They are building an overpass over south road probably with more distruptions then if they had done it when the whole line was being upgraded. They also tryed to cut short the resleeping of the tracks. This lead to derailments and futer cost in fixing the tracks. They rushed the purchase of the trams to be ready by the next election possiably leading to us paying much more then we could have. If I can remember they cost almost 6m each. Much more then melbourne pays.

Got a couple of photos of the new framing at Railway Station stop yesterday morning. These have also been installed at Rundle Mall. I'll update you all on whether Pirie Street and City West stops have these as well tommorrow when I go to TAFE.

i have not been following this thread closely, so excuse me if i'm reopening a resolved conversation:

I presume heaps of people from Wayville, Goodwood & Hyde Park travel on the Trams to the CBD each day. Given the peak hour tram congestion, does it make sense to have extra trams run between Goodwood <--> North Terrace (instead of going all the way to glenelg). I presume an extra siding would need to be created near Goodwood? would this work?
