Cargo Containers @ State Library

#1 Post by Edgar » Mon Feb 25, 2008 12:23 pm

Anyone knows what is happening at North Terrace?

I almost rear-ended a car in front of me as my attention was drawn towards the State Library and the lots of cargo containers (you know those 20-30ft long shipping containers) being dumped in front of it up to 3 storeys high.

I hope my eye sight were right, or was it something else? All I know is, they are huge.

I suspect it is for the opening ceremony of the Adelaide Festival of Arts this Friday. The historic façades of the cultural buildings along North Terrace will form part of the opening ceremony. Images choreographed to music will be displayed onto the façades in what promises to be a audio-visual spectacular. I will definitely be attending.

In 2006 the festival used containers stacked high to create a space called "red square". This latest structure would most likly be something similar for this festival.

Or maybe there is a panamax container ship due to dock on the Torrens river?

I have asked around and no one seems to know what they are.
Visual 'art' is the only thing people think it may be. If thats visual art then I think ill tip over a rubbish bin on the way to work :D
