Rundle Mall - A Smokers' Paradise - No more

#1 Post by monotonehell » Tue Feb 26, 2008 2:13 pm

Go to any suburban shopping centre and you'll notice one thing. They're all indoors and smokers must do their gasping and wheezing outside.
Is this a promotional edge unique to Rundle Mall?:

"Come to Rundle Mall, shop and smoke 'til you drop!"

;)

*waits for thread to derail into a pro-smokers V anti-smokers /bun/ turnip fight*

I like buns!

Their likely deliciousness prevents me from using them in any such fight, however.

Personally I'd also like to see a smoking ban extended to anywhere in public. I'm all for letting people smoke 'em if they got 'em, but only when it's not at the expense of someone else's lungs.

But as I hinted, I'm not interested in a smoking verses not debate. I'm interested what people think regarding the ability to smoke in Rundle Mall and whether that factors into smokers visiting Rundle Mall instead of an enclosed shopping centre. Sorry, I should have been more explicit in my OP.

I wish.....

Emos
Skatey Fags(The idiots that speed/cut off people down the mall on their bikes/skateboards.)
Smokers (If they did it in the many side alleys of rundle mall it's ok) Being a Non Smoker and infact having Allergys/Asthma I really don't feel the greatest after walking around rundle mall for several hours. Even if I try and avoid the Notorious Benches. People stand with them infront of you. Walk infront of you. Hold them at head height as they walk.. Exhale and it drifts back onto you..
Were Banned from Rundle Mall..

and I see Rundle Mall as being Popular due to it being generally closest BIG destination (unless you live marion way)
to most people. Sure the Smoking/Non Smoking does play a small part but ultimately its distance In my eyes. Also public transport heads there and many school children head there after school.

definitely no skate boards for me in Rundle Mall.

Can someone tell me if it is actually legal to skate in Rundle Mall?

As for smokers, I also wish to see them being a little more considerate and move to the side alleys to smoke.

Yes, great observation, suburban shopping centres are all indoors, Rundle mall isn't. Its an open space, therefore smokers are entitled to light up. Don't like it? Avoid the smokers and get over it. Anything else people want to complain about? No wonder Foley labelled us all a pack of whiners.

No, a fine can be issued, but how do you enforce it against most kids that will just give false details anyway!

Isn't that what I said? (By the way former communist countries used to smoke and drink like there was no tomorrow. And for them there wasn't )

Just to examine the fact that you can in Rundle Mall and you can't in other shopping centres, and how that might affect people's decisions to frequent one or the other. Wait.. point? this is a discussion forum.. there is no point! ;)
