Re: #UC : Burj Dubai- 162st/818m (Worlds tallest structure)
That render of Burj doesn't look like the other renders that I have seen over on SSC... Are you sure that is Burj Dubai?

Re: #UC : Burj Dubai- 162st/818m (Worlds tallest structure)
I've never seen that render before. Is that a new design or an old one?
Re: #UC : Burj Dubai- 162st/818m (Worlds tallest structure)
Thats not the Burj Dubai. This is the Burj Dubai.
Re: #UC : Burj Dubai- 162st/818m (Worlds tallest structure)
sorry my mistake, copied the wrong link. ive up dated my first post with a construction photograph instead.
I beleive that was an earlier Design.

Re: #UC : Burj Dubai- 162st/818m (Worlds tallest structure)
Burj Dubai is now about 620m high. Still about another 200m to climb, but the top inhabitable floors only reach another few metres higher than the current height. Final height is still unconfirmed at 818m (who would have thought?).
Re: #UC : Burj Dubai- 162st/818m (Worlds tallest structure)
Too bad the surrounding areas look more like wasteland than anything.
Re: #UC : Burj Dubai- 162st/818m (Worlds tallest structure)
Dubai - now thats a city which just keeps on building new an innovative structures - yes they have lots of Oil money, but they are very adventurous in what they develop and propose to develop. Just check thi out for what they have done and what is coming - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Developments_in_Dubai

Re: #UC : Burj Dubai- 162st/818m (Worlds tallest structure)
It may look like a wasteland but everywhere in Dubai are still developing, at a really quick rate that is.
Rumour had that they are proposal to built an even taller building than Burj Dubai, at over 1km above sea level, around 200m higher than the final height of the Burj Dubai, at a site adjacent to it.
While we at Adelaide are struggling to built something over 100m

Re: #UC : Burj Dubai- 162st/818m (Worlds tallest structure)
Is it just me, or is that city starting to go so far over the top that it's laughable? It seems like they're just building half of these things to show off. Perhaps these oil shieks (or whatever they are) are compensating for other personal 'inadequacies'...? It smacks of a serious case of short d*ck syndrome to me.

I do wonder what will happen once the oil runs out...
Re: #UC : Burj Dubai- 162st/818m (Worlds tallest structure)
That's why all this construction is going on - to create a vast tourist industry that will take over from oil as the main source of revenue.Norman wrote:I do wonder what will happen once the oil runs out...
