I'm surprised that no one has suggested Flowers for Algernon as yet ;) (squeek!)

I haven't read much this year s far. I've been too busy/stupid/hot/lazy. I recently I read William Gibson's latest Spook Country, and I'm in the middle of Steven Gould's Jumper because the Hollow-wood movie adaption messed with the plot so badly and turned it into a crap action movie that I needed to go back to the text.

I mistook the 2006 for 2008 at the start of this thread! Algernon's been absent for a year now. :(

Incidentally, a production of Flowers for Algernon visited my school a few years back so that I didn't have to bother with reading about it!

All involved did a very good job, too; especially given there were only two people alternating between roles for the whole play.

Currently reading "Wildfire" by Nelson deMille - one of my favourite authors.

I generally try to read a book a month. Best book I read last year was Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath" - first time I'd read it, and it was absolutely fantastic. Many people read it in high school and didn't think much of it, but reading it with a bit of life experience behind you - Wow!

I haven't read "1984" but I have read Orwell's "Animal Farm" and that was pretty good - a satire on Communism.
cheers,
Rhino

love both of them!

Huxley's Brave New World is also excellent.

"Hey, Wise Guy, I wanted myrrh drugs"
by Mary M.
A searing insight into the difficulty of an immaculate conception without an epidural.
Never argue with stupid people. They just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

"Famous Five go mad on mescaline" by Enid Blyton.
Makes "the faraway tree" look like a lot of apologist dribble for bad drugs.

I don't read novels anymore. Used to read a fair bit ten years ago when I was in school. Between 10 and 14 I think I read every Dr Who book known to man before I moved on to reading every Tom Clancy book. Oh yeah, read 1984 as well - should be mandatory reading for all school students. Been meaning to read Animal Farm for years now... one day :)

These days it's all technical documentation and intarwebs news and forums. The last proper books I've read were biographies: LASER - about the development of the Laser and the 30 year patent battle over it; and Masters of Doom - the story of Id Software (In the USA they have drive-through banks!)

I remember hearing somewhere that in America (and I believe here too) have to have brail numbers on the buttons. Being a drive through ATM, can you think of anything wrong with that!
