LC House was never a cinema.Ben wrote:Isn't that the same building? Will wrote:It could also be LC House which was sold last year.?

I'm thinking of the building that has been vacant for a very long time cinema/theatre i thought. I remeber gold/brown lstripes on the outside of the building and it's on the corner of another street.... I haven;t been down Hindley in a long time..

I just checked my street directory and I'm pretty sure that 64-68 Hindley Street is LC House. LC House is indeed the hideous building with the gold/brown stripes on the facade, but I doubt it was ever used as a cinema or theatre complex. Because if you look at the building's facade from Blyth Street, it appears the LC House is actually not a 60's monstrosity but rather a much older building, a much older building! It appears that LC House, due to the type of stone used is from the 1870s or so. However having said that, many establishments were used around Hindley Street, particularly in the 60's and 70's for arty or pornographic films.Ben wrote:I'm thinking of the building that has been vacant for a very long time cinema/theatre i thought. That sounds promising.
I wouldn't want to be staying there, of course.

Good the L.C house is the most disgraceful thing around. Hope the design has a good height and looks nice.
Hindley Street isn't that bad these days, its far from a red light district and is much safer compared to the past though ofcourse there is still alot of room for improvement. The developments in the area are definitely going to give the precinct a major boast.
It would be good to see quite a few facades retained and buildings (with good height and design) built at the back of the older building.

I agree- retain the old facades with architectural merit and hence a different ambience lto the street. A couple of classic designs mid way on south side of Hindley. An unusual example happened once on VSQ - old facade rolled along footpath till the new bldg.was constructed - then entire old facade rolled back. (it was a few bldgs. north of SGIC). Stuuning to watch! Sorry guys I can't be more precise about locations - not helpful up in QLD.

As far as I remember that old building on the western side of Victoria Square was moved as a whole not just the facade. The buildings to the south and north of this heritage building were demolished and it was then rolled north, where it stayed. It wasn't rolled back when the SGIC building was completed.skyliner wrote:I agree- retain the old facades with architectural merit and hence a different ambience lto the street. The All-Seasons crew looking for a new project after their proposal beside the new bus-station fell through, perhaps?
[CAN] Re: #Proposed: 64-68 Hindley Street ? Level Hotel
I reckon that old church has been converted into a nightclub, because I swear I heard music coming out from that building last night (about 4am) plus there is signage out the front.
[CAN] Re: #Proposed: 64-68 Hindley Street ? Level Hotel
Yes, I saw a sign out the front, too, and I'm sure that it was used as some kind of Fringe venue now that I think of it.crawf wrote:I reckon that old church has been converted into a nightclub, because I swear I heard music coming out from that building last night (about 4am) plus there is signage out the front.

The hotel planned for the rear of the church on Grote Street was to become a 'Four Points By Sheraton'. Our new All Seasons will be integrated into the old Westpac Building at the corner of North Terrace and KWS.Omicron wrote:The All-Seasons crew looking for a new project after their proposal beside the new bus-station fell through, perhaps?

Ah, thanks for the clarification. I couldn't quite remember who made the Grote proposal. Will wrote:The hotel planned for the rear of the church on Grote Street was to become a 'Four Points By Sheraton'.
