I really like that picture, Mr. Urban! I find some taken from the areas around Light's Vision can make the skyline seem smaller than it is because you can't see much of anything behind North Tce., but that seems more dense to me.

400 KWS next :?: :?: :?:
i'd prefer a compound counter on the frontpage indicating recently completed and future activity. Something like:
  • * No Buildings Complete (last 12months): 99
    * No. Buildings U/C: 99
    * No. Cranes on skyline: 99
    * No. Buildings Approved: 99
    * No. Buildings Proposed: 99
An excellent idea Wayno - an 'executive summary' if you will. Visually easy to comprehend for those with Bloom's spatial/numerical/analytical intelligences. Yet to see it though.

i'm actually quite pleased with MHS despite what you might say.

although i believe him unsuitable as state premier, he is still challenging the government as well as putting forward his own vision and ideas for the city.

he's acting like a true opposition leader, unlike other leaders of late (*cough* rob kerin, *cough* iain evans)

I thought he's mostly been doing the standard opposition for opposition's sake thing. Which I think is a bit ordinary.

However if we want to continue this discussion I suggest we move it to the Pub, not in this thread.

Loving that this thread has been stickied. I can't wait til we get into double digits!

Also, definitely like Wayno's idea for a counter on the front page of buildings completed, approved, under construction, etc. 'Executive summaries' help me organise things in my head. :)
It's = it is; its = everything else.
You're = you are; your = belongs to.
Than = comparative ("bigger than"); then = next.

Well, seeing as it might take some time between projects before the next crane goes up, I thought we might share our thoughts on our favourite projects going up?

I for one, am greatly anticipating the impact 400 KWS will make. Its 90m length, and 47m height will radically alter the streetscape far beyond I think some can imagine. It is quite an enormous building, and for those of you who knows your overseas towers, 90m is the same width as the Dubai Index Tower, and in comparision to all the other buildings around it, its friggen wide!

The area which I believe will undergo the biggest transformation, as has already been done with the 1-something-something Pirie, and something-on-Hindmarsh tower completed recently, let alone, adding the Central Park Twins, Conservatory, and Aurora Twins. While in an area of already 'dense' proportions, that it may not be 'skyline transforming', the streetscape appeal will simply be altered immensly.

Same reasons re 400KWS - to stay relevant I reckon 2 cranes here due to size. Stands out as better than usual architecture IMO.

I was lucky enough to have awindow seat when I flew into adelaide on Thursday morning. You could see all of the cranes and it just makes the city more look interesting as well as a sign of better prosperity.

Will be great when the 3-4 near KWS / south tce and the 3-4 around Hindmarsh sq are all up and operating. The buildings will change the face of the CBD and show that the place growing again, which will be really good for all of us.

You are spot on Proff - It's a positive sight - not only for us but for the interstate and overseas visitors. Makes us
look a progressive city with a dynamic C.B.D.

Not too sure where to place this, but cranes show economic health if a city.

Hate to dampen your enthusiasm (as mine was)when I read of developers and high rise work being badly affected in Brisbane due too less accessability to initial finances. 2 page article, in todays's Courier Mail (29/3/08) said 30-40% of finances drying up in next few months. Very scary - flow on effects also very significant. Hope Adelaide is not affected concerning KWS Sth, Hindmarsh Sq. and Currie St. Any news on such in Adelaide?
