News & Discussion: Adelaide Metro Buses
Re: 'Super-bus' may be the answer for Qld, what about us?
An underground interchange is the way to go. Extend our train underground to meet up with an underground bus network. It would be an awesome system.

Its Sydney's turn..

Another city getting the buses. I wonder how the trials will go.SYDNEY is to get its first giant buses next year, with "super metro" vehicles to be introduced as part of a $12 million trial.
......
The new buses will be able to carry up to 115 people, most of whom are expected to stand, with limited seating likely to be available.
The super-buses will carry twice as many passengers as a standard bus and significantly more than the 85 people the present generation of "bendy" buses can carry. The length of the buses will be similar to B-double trucks, which are banned from the city's centre.
Re: 'Super-bus' may be the answer for Qld, what about us?
Adelaide about 2 years ago bought 50 artics.
They wanted more but at the they were the only ones who wanted them and the chassis suppilers refused to sell any more chassis to local companies due to lack of demand.
Maybe with all this demand (sydney and brisbane) they will have the buying power for more.

New OBahn artic?
I could be very wrong here.
On 10th April I was on a bus going into the city (crammed in with a standing load due to it not being articulated as per usual) we were exiting Paradise Interchange about to go onto the track to Klemzig when I saw something GREEN coming off the track from Klemzig. I managed to flip my phone out of my pocket and snap a photo, unfortunately it was all too fast to get a proper shot and a window frame and some shrubbery was in the way. By the time I'd reset for a second shot we were on our way to Klemzig and the Magical Mystery Tour was far behind us.
Here's a cropped version of the photo I took (you might need to right click and open it in a new window or save it and view externally as phpBB will crop an 1170 pixel wide pic:
It had a green face and some interesting livery. Green and blue swishes and orange circles. I think the logo at the rear read TRANSLINK but the one at the front looks like TRANCITY.
Anyone know if this is one of the new artics being tested like the black streak last year? Or is this something completely different?

Re: New OBahn artic?
That green bus is a Volvo artic from Brisbane. It has the new Custom Coaches EvoII body. It's being trialled for 4 weeks, and there is a Merc coming our way as well sometime soon.
The Volvo tests so far have been good from what I have heard, and apparently lacks a vibrating floor.

Oh shame about that, perhaps they can get Cruise to install one for themNorman wrote:That green bus is a Volvo artic from Brisbane. It has the new Custom Coaches EvoII body. It's being trialled for 4 weeks, and there is a Merc coming our way as well sometime soon.

Thanks Norman I thought it looked like one of the test buses. *crosses fingers* we need a fleet of artics to make the obahn work properly again.

Re: New OBahn artic?
that is a Brisbane bus.
this is Adelaide's golden chance to replace its artic fleet, the last order of 50 scanias was to little to continue production (due to a low demand of RHD vehicles, and were of poor use on the O-bahn) i've been told the Volvos are much better (and brisbane uses them)

Is that the same model as the one we saw last year? (The big black one with the vibrating floor) Or was that a completely different brand?Düsseldorfer wrote:yep fingers crossed for new Mercedes Benz artic buses

That Volvo artic from Brisbane looks good. They are doing a lot of testing, I have seen it a lot (except for a few days when I was out of town) it is starting to stalk me like the Scanias do.

Yes I've seen it several times since my first glance at Paradise; twice down Hackney road, and once on Grand Junction Road I guess heading to the test track at the Grand Junction Station location.howlerbus wrote:That Volvo artic from Brisbane looks good.
