[DEF] Re: #Proposed: New Crows training facility
Bah. Its pathetic.
Whilst I disagree with the AAMI upgrades, the Adealide Crows should not be cementing their feet into the ground at West Lakes. Move their HQ and training facilities to Theberton, that way if/when the day comes when a new stadium is finally built, they wont be in a shitty situation. Also the ADELAIDE Crows will finally have their own 'home' and will be closer to their name sake 'Adelaide'.

I just think it's bullshit that the crows think they rule footy park
[DEF] Re: #Proposed: New Crows training facility
Sighs...
If only Crows could base themselves at Adelaide Oval... Unfortunately its undermined by its capacity constraints, which Port could easily accomodate, but it wouldn't be representative of their geographical location.
Jeez, a lotta things gotta be backwards around here don't they?
Reading up on wiki just recently, I read that SACA are for AFL matches being played at the Oval? I thought they were against, or is that the SANFL being a selfish prick and holding down the Crows and Port from playing elsewhere?

[DEF] Re: #Proposed: New Crows training facility
SACA would love to hold AFL matches but the SANFL has an agreement with the AFL that all AFL matches played in SA will be played at the SANFL owned AAMI Stadium.
[DEF] Re: #Proposed: New Crows training facility
So under the agreement they have, surely theres a timeframe which they are binded to that?
[DEF] Re: #Proposed: New Crows training facility
Not sure how long the agreement is but the AFL likes long term agreements such as every AFL grand final will be played at the MCG until around 2050. Don't get your hopes up of AFL being played at Adelaide Oval any time soon.
[DEF] Re: #Proposed: New Crows training facility
There are damn good reasons im against AFL being played at Adelaide Oval.Shuz wrote:Sighs...

In fact, you can blame the SACA (and their selfish ways) for Football Park ever being built.

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.
[DEF] Re: #Proposed: New Crows training facility
You could be right. It is either a 25 or 50 year agreement and was made around the time Port Adelaide joined the AFL.

[DEF] Re: #Proposed: New Crows training facility
The AFL and SANFL prefer AAMI Stadium. There are several reasons for this such as capacity, Adelaide Oval not meeting AFL standards in many areas, and AAMI stadium is more financially viable for football - football keeps the money instead of cricket. It makes sense that none of the parties want to play at Adelaide Oval.Shuz wrote:Reading up on wiki just recently, I read that SACA are for AFL matches being played at the Oval? If the SACA had been more cooperative and progressive years ago when Adelaide Oval was the home of football then it's still be there. They've only themselves to blame.

In short, before AAMI was built, there was an opportunity to play AFL at Adelaide Oval. SACA passed on it. So AAMI, or Football Park as it was known, was built.
Now SACA want games at Adelaide Oval. Thats basically the story in short.
On the thread now, what's being built just outside the stadium, just down from the Crows Shed? There are foundations(concrete yet to be poured) and earth moving equiment out there, all fenced off...

No, the new development is pretty much on top of their current building, right on the boundary of the stadium. If you look at one of the pictures you can see the current administration building which will remain as is.
[DEF] Re: AAMI Stadium to recieve a $70million facelift
This is a huge amount of funding. Personally I would rather something happen with a stadium in the city. If there is no major upgrade for the train system announced in this budget and instead only this sort of political 'grandstanding' I will be really annoyed. From adelaidenow:
$100m upgrade for AAMI
June 01, 2008 01:20pm
THE South Australian Government will provide $100 million for the redevelopment of AAMI Stadium, it was announced today.
It will also provide $2.5 million each for the state's two AFL clubs in this week's state Budget.
The Government's contribution to the stadium's redevelopment will help to enhance the roof to provide greater shelter and improve dining and toilet facilities.
It will also build a new convention centre and western grandstand upgrade, improve stadium entrances, build new corporate suites and expand administration offices.
Premier Mike Rann said the government was supporting the redevelopment because it was the only venue in the state that could seat more than 50,000 for a range of sporting and major events.
"This redevelopment will bring AAMI Stadium up to international standard," he said in a statement.
"It will not only enhance the experience for spectators and users of AAMI Stadium, it will put us in a stronger position to compete for major events such as World Cup soccer matches."
State treasurer Kevin Foley said it was the view of the SANFL, the AFL and both the AFL clubs that "a redevelopment of AAMI Stadium is the best result for football in South Australia".
SANFL chief executive Leigh Whicker welcomed the announcement.
"This redevelopment is indeed the logical solution for providing the South Australian community with a symbolic, world class sports and entertainment stadium," he said in the statement.
Recreation and Sport Minister Michael Wright said the state government was also supporting Port Adelaide and the Crows by matching a commonwealth commitment of $2.5 million to each club.
"AAMI Stadium draws over one million spectators every year and most of those are Port Adelaide or Crows supporters," he said in the government statement.
"It makes sense for us to support the teams who attract the majority of patrons through the gates."
