Anyone know when a decision is expected on this project?
[U/C] Re: #Proposed: 88 O'Connell St (Le Cornu Site) - 6 lvls
Now I am probably going to get flamed for this but here is my idea to solve this issue:
The ACC should buy the land off of the developer and turn it into a park, in such a prominent location it could become a popular meeting/lunch spot.

Don't be so ridiculous, it is now evident that there is a pressing need to satisfy the requirements of a few hundred locals living nearby. I would suggest a lawn bowls club of international standard with retractable lighting and plenty of access ramps! Maximum building height 20 metres, providing this does not interfere with the flight path of the rare O'Connell swift which flies north for the southern winter!Cruise wrote:Now I am probably going to get flamed for this but here is my idea to solve this issue:

and please be aware the lawn bowling clubrooms are to be no more than 1 storey, that the liquor license ends at 8.30pm each night, and atleast half the site is set aside for adequate car parking for the North Adl members, who must not drive down Tynte St, so not to destroy the villlage atmosphere. If they do drive down Tynte St, their 4-wheel drives must be in 2-wheel drive mode only. Floodlights for the green must not be above 5 metres in height, when lit.wilkiebarkid wrote:Don't be so ridiculous, it is now evident that there is a pressing need to satisfy the requirements of a few hundred locals living nearby. The very real and ironic twist to this scenario is when Wallis Cinemas owned the site [before Makris bought it], Wallis had trouble selling the site and it was for sale for ages.
Had the Adelaide city council or the current objectors put their money where there mouth is, they could quite easily have bought the site and really dictated its future.
At the very least they could have bought it and sold it on to who they wanted - with an iron clad agreement in place as to what would be developed [ie like the council/developer agreements of Palais/Alpha Apartments, Balfours/Bus Station].
I am sure Anne Moran & co were on the council then - so the question is why didnt they buy the site if they were so passionate about keeping the village atmosphere?
Further the land has doubled or tripled in value in that time and they also would have made a very healthy profit!

Park. shops, apartments, entertainmnet precinct. Anything is better than an empty lot. When something finally happens, it will restore adelaide as a progressive city, not only locally, but nationally too...

It's not a bad idea at all, you know. It's one that doesn't make any money, of course, but I wouldn't have too many objections to such an idea.Cruise wrote:Now I am probably going to get flamed for this but here is my idea to solve this issue:

Yeah only problem the owner would probably want $100m - esp. considering the loss of potential profit or rent, which would have continued into eternity. As I said previously, the council could have bought it for far less originally ie $6m - $10m and done what they wanted.

This development is a little step closer, as the Bank SA building on the site has now been vacated and is now ready for demolition. Bank SA has moved into the new North Adelaide village shopping centre across the road.
